Description

Apple Service Engineering (ASE)’s Compute team is seeking a highly motivated individual with strong technical and communication skills to join us in building and enhancing massive clusters hosting Virtual Machines, Containers, and associated infrastructure to meet the demands of Apple’s Services offerings. You will work with world-class engineers on core components of Virtualization and Containerization technologies, customize solutions to fit Apple’s diverse needs, and engage with the upstream community to drive Apple’s requirements. Ultimately, you will help build the platform that delivers our applications at scale to our end users.

As a Compute Site Reliability Engineering manager, you will lead a team responsible for providing a platform for mission-critical cloud systems to maintain uptime, scale seamlessly, and support new applications and services.

Minimum Qualifications

1. 10+ years of industry experience with a focus on building & leading high-performing engineering teams in cloud computing.
2. Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS (EC2, ECS, EKS, AWS Batch), Azure (Virtual Machines, AKS, Azure Batch), or Google Cloud (GCE, GKE, Cloud Batch) is highly desirable.
3. Managing enterprise services in large-scale *nix environments.
4. Operating large-scale multi-tenant infrastructure as a managed service.
5. Understanding of cloud computing architectures, systems design, and performance optimization.
6. Ability to work cross-functionally to achieve project success.
7. Desire to build, grow, and mentor a team.
8. Strong philosophy of continuous improvement.
9. Ownership mindset to understand and resolve root causes.
10. Encourages a culture of visibility and transparency across teams.
11. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
12. Technical (Engineering or Computer Science) BS/MS degree or equivalent work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Advocate for automation, believing in removing operational load via software.
2. Self-motivated, inquisitive, and eager to learn.
3. Experience designing and deploying VM and container infrastructure using platforms such as KVM, QEMU, AWS, or Google Cloud.
4. Experience with OpenStack or CloudStack.
5. Experience with configuration management tools like Puppet or Chef.

Apple offers a competitive total compensation package, including base pay (range: $208,300 - $313,000), stock options, benefits, and educational reimbursement. Compensation depends on skills, experience, and location.
