About the Team

The Apple Services Engineering (ASE) team develops systems and infrastructure powering Apple’s services such as iCloud, iTunes, Siri, and Maps. We build scalable, highly available services that 'just work' for millions of users worldwide.

Role Description

We seek a motivated Compute SRE Manager with strong technical and communication skills to lead a team managing massive clusters hosting Virtual Machines, Containers, and related infrastructure. You will work on core virtualization and containerization components, customize solutions, and collaborate with the upstream community to meet Apple’s needs. Your goal is to build a platform that delivers applications at scale to end users.

Minimum Qualifications

• 10+ years of industry experience, including leading high-performing engineering teams focused on cloud computing
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS (EC2, ECS, EKS, Batch), Azure (Virtual Machines, AKS, Batch), or Google Cloud (GCE, GKE, Cloud Batch)
• Managing enterprise services in large-scale *nix environments
• Operating large-scale multi-tenant managed infrastructure
• Understanding of cloud architectures, system design, and performance tuning
• Cross-functional collaboration skills
• Mentorship and team development experience
• Strong ownership and problem-solving skills
• Promoting transparency and visibility across teams
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• BS/MS in Engineering or Computer Science, or equivalent experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Advocate for automation to reduce operational load
• Self-motivated, inquisitive, eager to learn
• Experience deploying VM and container infrastructure with KVM, QEMU, AWS, or Google Cloud
• Experience with OpenStack or CloudStack
• Familiarity with configuration management tools like Puppet or Chef

Pay & Benefits
