About the role

Are you passionate about creating and maintaining scalable, reliable, and secure cloud infrastructure? As a Site Reliability Engineer at Coalition, you'll play a pivotal role in ensuring the performance, availability, and efficiency of our cloud-based systems. Working closely with cross-functional teams, you’ll design, implement, and manage robust cloud solutions that support our mission to protect the unprotected.

This role offers the chance to work on impactful projects such as automating infrastructure, building developer-friendly platforms, optimizing cloud resources, improving system observability, and driving operational excellence. You will also participate in a low-volume on-call rotation to ensure high system reliability and availability.

In this role, you'll focus on isolating, trapping, and responding to system failures, developing strategies for continuous monitoring and analysis to minimize downtime and manual interventions. Our core platform is primarily built in Python, with some services in Java and Go. We adopt a pragmatic approach, using the right tools for the job and designing systems to scale and evolve as we grow.

This position is ideal for software engineers transitioning into SRE or experienced SREs seeking a dynamic environment with challenging technical problems. If you enjoy solving complex issues, working with cutting-edge technologies, and making systems resilient, we want to hear from you!

This is a remote position, based in the United States or Canada.

Responsibilities

• 3+ years of experience in SRE/DevOps/Cloud engineering or software development in a full-stack environment.
• Strong understanding of AWS services (e.g., EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, VPC) and best practices for scalable, secure, and cost-effective infrastructure.
• Hands-on experience with IaC tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, or CDK for automating cloud infrastructure deployment and management.
• Experience with containerization and orchestration tools such as ECS, Kubernetes, etc.
• Experience working with fault-tolerant services and developing highly available systems.
• Knowledge of full-stack monitoring, system metrics, SLOs, failure testing, and monitoring strategies.
• Understanding of CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Github Actions, Jenkins, Travis, CircleCI) to accelerate deployments and enhance security and auditability.
• Experience designing and implementing platform components leveraging infrastructure or SaaS services.
• Familiarity with software engineering design patterns, agile development, and architecture principles.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience debugging infrastructure or application issues.
• Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, communicate complex ideas, and advocate for best practices.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, related field, or equivalent experience.

Bonus Skills

• Experience with Hashicorp Nomad and/or Vault.
• Proficiency in Go or Python, including writing libraries and tooling.
• Knowledge of cloud networking concepts (VPC, DNS, Load Balancers, NAT) and security principles (IAM, role-based access control, encryption).
• Exposure to Kafka or other event streaming platforms.

Compensation

Our salary ranges reflect labor costs across US markets, from $108,000/year to $163,900/year. Salary offers depend on education, skills, experience, location, and other factors. Recruiters can provide targeted salary info during interviews. Range adjustments may occur as needed.
