Job description

At Quickbase, we help organizations build better ways to run their operations. Our products give teams the flexibility to create applications around how their work actually happens, connecting people, information, and processes so they can keep work moving as needs change.

For more than 25 years, organizations have turned to Quickbase to solve operational challenges that off-the-shelf software wasn't built for. Today, we’re building on that foundation with new products and new possibilities for how people create, adapt, and improve the systems their work depends on.

Working at Quickbase means helping find better ways forward. We’re a team of curious, collaborative people who care about solving problems, learning as we go, and building things that make work better for our customers and each other.

Title : Site Reliability Engineer 2

Reporting to: Director of Site Reliability Engineering

Location : Sofia, BG (Remote or Hybrid)

Department : SRE

About the Company

We empower the problem solvers of the world to create solutions for themselves and their company. Our customers are passionate about streamlining their scattered information and processes, and we are passionate about providing our customers with a simple, powerful platform to create applications that are just right for them.

About the Team

Reporting to the Director of Site Reliability Engineering, our Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team is looking to add you to help us continue the best-in-class operation of the Quickbase platform and the advancement of our DevOps culture. You will work within the SRE team and across our engineering organization to help us holistically deliver software that is secure, compliant, reliable, high quality, scalable and considerate of technical debt. We operate our core platform in fully cloud native environments.

Some of our upcoming projects:

  • Evolving the platform infrastructure and services to be fully cloud native (elastic).

  • Preparing the platform to support multiple instances in support of governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) requirements.

  • Supporting multiple initiatives to continuously improve the reliability, performance, and scalability of the platform.

What We’re Looking for in Your Profile
  • You have approximately 1-2 years of experience as a Site Reliability Engineer, or in an equivalent operations or technical support role. You can handle most standard SRE requests, taking on some stories with assistance from senior teammates, and you’re developing your professional expertise and breadth by applying team policies and procedures to resolve a variety of issues across security, public cloud services, networking, compute, storage, web services, databases, monitoring, incident response, quality, scale, and performance.

  • You thrive on being part of a capable, caring, and hard-working team, helping others and being helped, continuously improving, and executing positive change. You enjoy sharing what you’ve learned with newer team members.

  • You are willing to be part of an on-call rotation and help with planned work on some nights or weekends.

  • You work well with general direction on routine work and detailed guidance on new or unfamiliar work, and you value being coached by senior members of the team.

  • You are proficient in English, both verbal and written.

  • Ability to work remotely 8AM to 5PM local time for optimal team coverage.

Responsibilities
  • Independently handle operational support requests and escalations, including issues of moderate scope that require reviewing a variety of factors, from SRE’s internal customers, i.e., Customer Support and Product Development teams — exercising judgment within established procedures and practices to determine the appropriate action — while also working to eliminate the need for those requests and escalations through better documentation, automation, improved product functionality, or empowering those teams to self-service.

  • Monitor and maintain production and non-production systems with increasing independence, working to improve instrumentation, early issue detection, and issue avoidance in pursuit of meeting service level objectives.

  • Consistently and reliably execute coordinated software deployments to the platform while working to improve the velocity of delivering value to our customers through deployment automation and release process refinement.

  • Take ownership of incident response, root cause analysis, and blameless postmortem activities for moderately complex issues.

  • Participate in 7x24 on call rotation per contractual arrangement.

  • Offer informal, peer-level help and knowledge-sharing to Site Reliability Engineer 1s and new team members as opportunities arise, while continuing to receive structured coaching and mentorship from senior members of the SRE team.

Specific Technology Experience
  • You have approximately 1-2 years of experience in IT administration, technology, or a software support role, ideally as a Site Reliability Engineer 1 or in an equivalent role.

  • You have administrative or power-user experience with Microsoft Windows, MacOS, or Linux.

  • You have working proficiency with, and can independently write and maintain automation scripts in, at least one of the following scripting languages: PowerShell, Python, Bash, or JavaScript.

  • Experience with Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform, or Microsoft Azure is expected.

Certifications (Recommended)
  • AWS Cloud Practitioner Foundational, AZ-900 Azure Fundamentals, or GCP Associate Cloud Engineer.

  • Splunk Power User.

Behavioral and Interpersonal
  • Collaborative, team player with high standards and ethics.

  • Can-do, how about now, how can I help attitude.

  • Intellectually curious with a demonstrated drive to learn and grow skills.

  • Systematic analysis and problem-solving ability.

  • Ability to maintain composure and urgency in stressful situations.

  • Ability to communicate issues and status clearly and consistently, both verbally and in writing.

  • Natural ability to be transparent and open to feedback.

  • Capacity to work in a high growth, fast-paced environment.

  • Enjoys informally helping onboard newer teammates.
