Job summary

JLA Resourcing Ltd is partnering with a global technology organisation to hire an Infrastructure Engineer / SRE for New York (or Washington DC) with hybrid work and ~50% travel. The role focuses on building, operating and improving large-scale production environments in Defence and Government sectors.

You'll work across software and infrastructure, using Kubernetes and AWS, developing automation, influencing architecture, and supporting on-call rotation.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

The Opportunity

We’re working with a global technology organisation delivering complex software and infrastructure solutions across Defence and Government.

They’re continuing their expansion of their New York (and Washington DC) engineering teams and looking for an Infrastructure Engineer / Site Reliability Engineer / Forward Deployed Infrastructure Engineer with a strong software engineering foundation who enjoys building systems, solving complex production problems and improving infrastructure through code and automation. This would particularly suit someone from an SRE, Software Engineering or Infrastructure Engineering background who wants to work on technically challenging, high-impact projects.

The Role

You’ll work across software and infrastructure, taking responsibility for building, operating and improving large-scale production environments.

You’ll be involved in:

• Building and engineering scalable, highly available infrastructure
• Working extensively with Kubernetes and AWS
• Developing code and automation to improve infrastructure and remove manual processes
• Influencing infrastructure architecture and systems design
• Operating and improving distributed production systems
• Monitoring, alerting, configuration management and platform upgrades
• Debugging complex production issues and engineering long-term solutions
• Deploying new systems and managing infrastructure migrations
• Working alongside software engineers and forward-deployed technical teams
• Balancing project-based engineering with operational responsibility, including an on-call rotation of approximately 1 week in 5

The Person

We’re particularly interested in engineers who combine software engineering skills with strong infrastructure knowledge, rather than purely operational DevOps experience.

Ideally, you’ll have:

• Active Security Clearance – Secret / Top Secret this is a key requirement
• Around 1–3+ years' experience within SRE, Infrastructure, Platform or Software Engineering
• A Computer Science degree or similarly strong technical/software engineering background
• AWS/cloud infrastructure experience
• Experience building infrastructure and production systems, not simply administering them
• An understanding of distributed systems, scalability and reliability
• Experience troubleshooting and debugging complex production environments
• The confidence to contribute to architecture and challenge how systems are designed and operated

Previous / current experience within Defence, Defence Technology or Government environments is essential.

This is a fast-moving, high-autonomy engineering environment, so we're looking for people who enjoy taking ownership, learning quickly and solving difficult technical problems.

The role is hybrid but candidates need to be within practical travelling distance of New York (we can also look at Washington DC as a base), as classified work requires onsite attendance.
