Job description

Job Summary

The Site Reliability Engineer III is a pivotal architect of stability for CME Clearing & Risk. You will engineer secure, scalable, and reliable technology solutions that safeguard the global marketplace. By bridging the gap between development and operations, you ensure our risk management services remain resilient and high-performing for customers worldwide.

What You’ll Get
  • A supportive environment fostering career progression, continuous learning, and an inclusive culture.
  • Broad exposure to CME's diverse products, asset classes, and cross‑functional teams.
  • A competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package.
What You’ll Do
  • Champion Cloud Evolution: Partner with development and platform teams to orchestrate seamless application migrations and maintenance within Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Architect Resiliency: Design and implement sophisticated frameworks for operational fault tolerance, capacity planning, and system self‑healing.
  • Eliminate Friction: Aggressively reduce toil by promoting a culture of automation, streamlining environment builds, and optimizing the software development lifecycle.
  • Master the Production Ecosystem: Maintain high‑availability standards across on‑premise and cloud environments, serving as a critical responder in on‑call rotations and a leader in post‑incident forensic reviews.
  • Collaborate for Performance: Work side‑by‑side with application teams during the design phase to ensure non‑functional requirements—security, maintainability, and speed—are baked into the code, not bolted on.
What You’ll Bring
  • Cloud & Orchestration Expertise: Deep hands‑on experience with GCP (preferred), AWS, or Azure, complemented by mastery of Docker and Kubernetes for managing complex distributed systems.
  • Technical Versatility: Strong Linux/Unix foundations and the ability to write impactful scripts. You possess mid‑level development proficiency in Java or Python and experience managing data layers like Oracle, Postgres, or BigQuery.
  • SRE DNA: A profound understanding of SRE principles, specifically in defining and defending SLIs, SLOs, and SLAs to maintain system health.
  • Observability Mindset: Experience navigating the telemetry landscape using tools such as OpenTelemetry, Splunk, Prometheus, and Grafana to turn metrics into actionable insights.
  • Operational Rigor: Familiarity with workload automation (UC4/Automic) and modern CI/CD pipelines utilizing Bamboo, JIRA, and Git.
  • Visionary Problem‑Solving: A self‑starting approach to complex challenges and the communication skills necessary to document and share your vision across global teams.
  • Academic Foundation: A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
