Job description

About Black Men Teach (BMT)

Black Men Teach is a movement and a mission — building a future where every child has the opportunity to learn from, be led by, and be inspired by a Black male educator. We recruit, prepare, and support Black men to enter and thrive in the classroom, strengthening schools and transforming communities in the process. At BMT, we’re reimagining what it means to teach, lead, and belong. Our team is bold, innovative, and deeply rooted in purpose. We don’t just talk about change — we design it, build it, and live it every day. Our work is rooted in the belief that representation matters—and that our children’s schooling experience will never be complete without Black male teachers in the classroom.

Position Overview:

The Site Leader serves as the primary facilitator, mentor, and community leader for a cohort of Black Men Teach Fellows. This role creates engaging, culturally affirming learning experiences that foster belonging, leadership development, educator identity, academic success, and personal growth.

Reporting to the Director, Secondary Programs & Educator Pathways, the Site Leader facilitates weekly programming, monitors Fellow engagement and academic progress, partners with families and schools, and cultivates a culture of accountability, brotherhood, joy, and excellence. Site Leaders are often the most consistent and influential adult relationship within a Fellow's Black Men Teach experience.

Core Responsibilities:
  • Fellow Development & Community Building (35%)
    • Build authentic relationships with assigned Fellows that foster trust, belonging, and personal growth.
    • Serve as a mentor, advocate, and positive role model.
    • Support Fellows in setting goals, overcoming challenges, and celebrating successes.
    • Cultivate a positive cohort culture grounded in brotherhood, accountability, and excellence.
    • Encourage leadership development, self-confidence, and educator identity.
  • Program Facilitation & Educator Identity Development (30%)
    • Facilitate weekly Black Men Teach cohort sessions using the approved curriculum.
    • Lead engaging discussions focused on leadership, identity, service, education, and career exploration.
    • Create learning experiences that inspire Fellows to consider careers in education.
    • Foster meaningful reflection, participation, and peer connection.
    • Reinforce Black Men Teach's mission, values, and leadership expectations.
  • Student Success & Progress Monitoring (15%)
    • Monitor attendance, participation, academic progress, and program engagement.
    • Conduct regular academic and wellness check-ins.
    • Identify Fellows needing additional support and communicate concerns promptly.
    • Maintain accurate documentation of Fellow participation and progress.
  • Family & School Engagement (10%)
    • Build positive relationships with families, caregivers, teachers, counselors, and school staff.
    • Communicate regarding Fellow participation and progress.
    • Encourage family engagement in Black Men Teach programming.
    • Collaborate with schools to strengthen student success and engagement.
  • Program Operations & Collaboration (10%)
    • Participate in Site Leader trainings, team meetings, retreats, and professional development.
    • Submit attendance, check-in notes, and required documentation on time.
    • Support Black Men Teach events, field experiences, and community engagement activities.
    • Represent Black Men Teach with professionalism and integrity.
Qualifications:
