Job description

Job DescriptionJob Description

Industrial Millwright / Machinery Rigger Foreman – Leadman
Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Industrial Millwright / Machinery Rigger Foreman, Millwright Leadman, or senior-level Industrial Millwright who can work independently, take ownership of field work, and lead a crew through complex machinery installations, relocations, rigging moves, and industrial equipment projects.

This is a hands‑on working foreman position for an experienced tradesperson who does not need constant supervision. The ideal candidate is capable of evaluating the work in front of them, planning and sequencing the job, directing other millwrights and riggers, solving field problems, communicating with Project Management, and keeping the crew productive and safe.

We are looking for someone who is highly skilled in their primary trade but also understands that successful industrial projects require teamwork. Candidates should be willing to work alongside and support electrical, controls, plumbing, pipefitting, welding, fabrication, and other trades when needed to complete the project safely and efficiently.

This position involves nationwide travel, full‑time work plus overtime, and typical 11‑day travel rotations. Compensation includes competitive trade pay, a Foreman premium, per diem, paid travel, and benefits. Teknikor Industrial Millwright ...

Responsibilities
  • Serve as a hands‑on Industrial Millwright Foreman / Leadman, taking ownership of assigned field work with minimal supervision.
  • Plan, organize, assign, and directly supervise the daily work of millwrights, machinery riggers, helpers, and apprentices.
  • Lead crews performing industrial machinery installation, machinery relocation, equipment setting, assembly, leveling, anchoring, alignment, and commissioning.
  • Plan and sequence work to maintain project schedules, productivity, safety, and installation quality.
  • Develop and review rigging plans, lift plans, machinery‑move plans, rigging configurations, and equipment requirements before executing equipment moves.
  • Verify load calculations, rigging methods, lifting equipment, and hardware are appropriate and within rated capacities.
  • Perform hands‑on machinery rigging using forklifts, machinery skates, chain falls, jacks, rollers, gantries, and related rigging equipment.
  • Set, level, position, and anchor machinery on foundations, structural steel, and machine bases.
  • Perform precision machining alignment, including shaft and coupling alignment using laser alignment systems and dial indicators.
  • Install and align motors, gearboxes, reducers, shafts, couplings, bearings, sheaves, sprockets, belts, chains, and other power transmission components.
  • Read and interpret OEM drawings, mechanical drawings, assembly prints, installation manuals, and engineering specifications.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical installation, alignment, assembly, and equipment‑related problems in the field.
  • Perform or direct MIG, TIG, or Stick welding and light fabrication of brackets, guards, bases, mounts, and field modifications when required.
  • Coordinate directly with the Project Manager, customers, other foremen, and supporting trades regarding progress, manpower, schedule, equipment, and field conditions.
  • Coordinate and work alongside electrical, controls, plumbing, pipefitting, welding, and other industrial trades on integrated installation and relocation projects.
  • Be willing to assist other trades when appropriate and support the overall project rather than limiting work strictly to one trade classification.
  • Conduct pre‑task planning, toolbox talks, and crew coordination while enforcing LOTO, confined‑space, lift‑planning, and jobsite safety requirements.
  • Identify field problems, material shortages, tooling requirements, manpower needs, delays, and scope changes and communicate them to Project Management.
  • Train, mentor, and develop apprentices, helpers, riggers, millwrights, and less‑experienced crew members.
  • Set expectations for workmanship, productivity, accountability, safety, and professionalism within the crew.
  • Lead by example by remaining productive and working alongside the crew when required to complete the job.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 8 years of hands‑on industrial millwright and/or machinery rigging experience in manufacturing, industrial, or heavy‑industrial environments.
  • Previous Foreman, Leadman, Lead Hand, Crew Lead, or supervisory experience directing industrial tradespeople.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision and take ownership of field assignments from start through completion.
  • Strong experience planning, sequencing, and directing work for a multi‑person industrial crew.
  • Proven industrial machinery installation and relocation experience.
  • Strong machinery rigging background involving forklifts, skates, chain falls, jacks, rollers, gantries, hoists, and related equipment.
  • Experience developing, reviewing, or executing lift plans and machinery‑move plans.
  • Strong experience setting, leveling, anchoring, assembling, and aligning industrial manufacturing equipment.
  • Proficiency with precision alignment and measurement tools, including laser alignment systems, dial indicators, micrometers, calipers, levels, feeler gauges, and straightedges.
  • Strong mechanical knowledge involving bearings, couplings, seals, gearboxes, reducers, shafts, and power‑transmission systems.
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings, OEM installation manuals, assembly prints, and engineering specifications.
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting and field problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with Project Managers, customers, foremen, and other trades.
  • Experience training and mentoring apprentices, helpers, or junior tradespeople.
  • Team‑oriented attitude and willingness to work across trades and support other crafts when necessary to complete the project.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability and willingness to perform nationwide travel and project rotations.
Qualifications
  • Formal experience as an Industrial Millwright Foreman, Millwright Leadman, Machinery Rigger Foreman, Rigging Foreman, or industrial Crew Lead.
  • Rigging certification or documented formal rigging training.
  • OSHA 30 certification.
  • Confined Space training.
  • First Aid / CPR certification.
  • MIG, TIG, or Stick welding experience.
  • Experience with wire and cable manufacturing equipment, extrusion machinery, plastics equipment, CV lines, or other high‑precision production machinery.
  • Experience coordinating multi‑trade industrial installation projects.

What We’re Looking For

This opportunity is best suited for a true working Foreman / Leadman—someone who has spent years in the trade and is ready to take responsibility for the work occurring in the field.

The right person should be able to walk onto an industrial jobsite, understand the scope, determine what needs to happen next, organize the crew, communicate with the Project Manager and other trades, solve problems as they arise, and keep the project moving without requiring constant direction.

We value experienced tradespeople who:

  • Take ownership of their work and crew.
  • Can work independently and make sound field decisions.
  • Lead from the front and remain hands‑on.
  • Know how to direct, train, and mentor others.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, Project Managers, and other foremen.
  • Understand how their trade affects the rest of the project.
  • Are willing to help other trades when needed instead of saying, “That’s not my job.”
  • Maintain high standards for safety, craftsmanship, productivity, and accountability.
Travel, Compensation & Benefits
  • Foreman pay differential in addition to base trade pay.
  • Typical 11‑day travel rotations.
  • Portal‑to‑portal pay for required travel time.

  • Training and advancement opportunities with a path toward Superintendent and Project Management positions.
