Job summary

The Construction Foreman performs and manages tasks involving physical labor at site, highway, and heavy construction projects. The position may operate a variety of large equipment, hand and power tools and may clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, set braces to support the sides of excavations, erect scaffolding, clean up rubble and debris, and remove waste materials. The position may assist and direct other craft workers.

  • Oversee, schedule, and arrange crew work daily, cooperating with other team members as necessary.
  • Review all project activities, work equipment, and sites every day to make sure everything is performed to company standards as well as to the latest OSHA regulations and standards.
  • Run toolbox talks and create and report on job hazard analysis. Complete incident reports and near‑miss reports as needed.
  • Locate, calculate, and designate job site locations as well as equipment and job site structure locations as needed.
  • Work with other necessary personnel and supervisors to ensure all site and crew activities are in sync and productive.
  • Delegate jobs to crew members as determined by their capabilities and the general requirements of specific work projects and site parameters.
  • Meet with other managers, supervisors and necessary personnel as required to fully resolve conflicts, complications, and other issues according to company and client standards/requirements.
  • Train new crew members whenever they join the team and provide workers with continuing education according to the latest industry requirements so that all work meets the most current specifications.
  • Knowledge of all site activities, including, but not limited to, earthwork, grading, pipe, paving, etc.
  • Equipment familiarity (triaxles, dozers, loaders, excavators, rollers, etc.).
  • Ensures that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed. Brings problems to the attention of the General Superintendent, Safety Director, or HR manager.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with the ability to hold a Med Card.
  • Clean driving record.
Competencies
  • In‑depth knowledge of construction procedures, equipment, and OSHA guidelines.
  • Ability to read drawings (electronic and print), plans, and blueprints.
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
  • Ability to communicate and report effectively.
  • Ability to read and understand project specifications, product data, and shop drawings.
  • Ability to work in high‑stress conditions and quickly changing environments.
  • Proficient in using an iPad to submit electronic time and production reporting and document daily field activities. Past experience with HCSS is a plus.
  • GPS experience preferred.
  • Problem‑solving abilities.
