Job summary

Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Corporation invites applications for a Site Engineer Technician Internship. The program runs May to August, with airfare to HQ, on-site housing, and a daily meal allowance while on site.

You will assist civil, ocean, environmental, geotechnical, or construction management teams, conduct land and hydrographic surveying, monitor dredge production, and help with safety and daily reporting. Interns may work 8–12 hours per day on a 7-day schedule as needed.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing Civil Engineering, Ocean Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering or Construction Management major.
  • Strong interest in dredging, coastal infrastructure, and surveying techniques.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule and travel for project sites.

Responsibilities

  • Assist site engineers with survey data collection and reports.
  • Support dredge production monitoring and quality control.
  • Maintain safety and assist team members on site.

Site Engineer Technician Internship

The Opportunity:

To create, maintain and restore a wide variety of port and coastal assets – harbors, waterways, rivers, wetlands, beaches, and storm-eroded shores – we use our sizeable fleet of specialized dredging equipment to excavate and transport the full range of underwater soils, including silts, sands, clays and rock. The summer Internship starts in May and ends in August. The summer Internship starts several days after the applicant's finals are completed. At these times the company will provide airfare to our corporate HQ where you will receive your technology for the internship. Once completed, we will provide transportation to one of our project sites. While on site the company will provide transportation in the form of a shared company vehicle or shared rental car. Housing will be provided on site in the form of a single hotel room or a shared company apartment (individual bedrooms). The company will also provide a $52 / day meal allowance for every day you are working on site. The company flies the intern back to their home airport on a Wednesday evening with a return flight back to site the following Wednesday. The internship normally ends ~1-2 weeks before classes begin again for the fall semester.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The internduties include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensuring a safe work environment during all operations and tasks
  • Land and hydrographic surveying for construction management purposes
  • Dredge production monitoring, analysis, and reporting
  • Daily dredge and quality control reporting
  • General support of our operations and fellow team members

Our Base hourly rate varies depending on education and relevant work experience. You will receive 1.5 times hourly pay for hours worked over 40 hours per week. Work hours are variable and dependent on Engineering staff and project needs / requirements. Work requires a 7-day per week schedule and typically 8 to 12 hours per day. On any project assignment, the Project Engineer may, when necessary, require different schedules or positions filled.
