Job summary

  • Inspections of signs after installation to ensure compliance with approved permits.
  • Assist with special projects and related project work.

Job description

This is moderately complex work in the Planning Services Division of the Department of Community Development assuring that commercial, office, industrial, multi-family residential, and single-family residential construction and development is completed in accordance with the Douglas County Zoning Resolution, other County policies and regulations, and other State and local regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Ensures compliance with zoning regulations, building codes, plat restrictions, and planned development guide standards through review of building permit applications, site plans, surveys, engineers’ letters, and other compliance documents.
  • Performs field evaluations on commercial, office, industrial, and multi-family residential projects and initiates solutions and remedial action to address inconsistencies related to plan approval versus actual site conditions.
  • Provides final approval of Certificates of Occupancy and Compliance for commercial and multi-family residential structures.
  • Ensures safety measures are in place for developments through the construction phases. Develops unique, site‑specific safety plans to mitigate risk of injury to the public on phased developments.
  • Process sign permit applications by reviewing them against County regulations and approving their issuance as appropriate based on compliance with applicable standards.
  • Inspects signs after their installation to ensure that they have been installed in accordance with approved permits.
  • Process administrative variance requests by reviewing applications against established approval criteria, suggesting alternative mitigation measures, coordinating referrals, and writing a staff assessment.
  • Assist with special projects and related project work.
  • Prepare required reports and maintain necessary logs and records.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Associate’s degree and a minimum of one year of experience in planning, zoning, regulatory interpretation, landscape design, or a related field. A combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS: A valid Colorado Driver’s License is required within 30 days of hire.
