Job summary

Raritan Bay Area YMCA in Perth Amboy, NJ, seeks an Afterschool Program Site Coordinator to lead a safe, engaging, and inclusive environment for children. The role runs Monday through Friday from 2:30pm to 6:00pm, with an hourly pay of $19 to $20.

You will supervise counselors and volunteers, ensure NJ licensing compliance, and coordinate activities and events while building strong relationships with families and partners.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required; an Associate's Degree is preferred.
• 2–4 years of experience in childcare, youth development, afterschool, or related program.
• Strong leadership, communication, organization and problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to supervise staff while working independently and in a team.
• Bilingual Spanish/English is a plus.
• CPR/First Aid, TB test, health clearance and NJ childcare trainings completed in required timeframes.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee daily afterschool program operations, ensuring a safe, welcoming environment.
• Supervise and train Program Counselors and volunteers, with feedback.
• Ensure compliance with YMCA policies and NJ childcare licensing requirements.
• Build positive relationships with children, families, staff and partners.
• Coordinate program activities, events, field trips, and facility setup/cleanup.
• Monitor participation and help develop activities to strengthen the program.

Position Details

Essential Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee daily afterschool program operations, ensuring a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment for children.
• Supervise, support, and provide guidance to Program Counselors and volunteers, including training and performance feedback.
• Ensure compliance with YMCA policies and applicable NJ childcare licensing, health & safety requirements.
• Build positive and professional relationships with children, families, staff, and community partners.
• Coordinate program activities, special events, field trips, facility use, and related setup and cleanup.
• Monitor program participation and effectiveness and assist with developing activities and initiatives that strengthen and expand the program.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate's Degree in Child Development, Education, Recreation, or a related field preferred.
• 2-4 years of experience working in childcare, youth development, afterschool, or a related program preferred.
• Demonstrated leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to supervise and support staff while working independently and as part of a team.
• Bilingual Spanish/English is a plus.
• CPR/First Aid certification, TB test, health clearance, and required NJ childcare licensing trainings must be completed within required timeframes.
