Job summary

St. John's University, located in Queens, seeks a Site Coordinator for the Upward Bound Program at Long Island City HS, SJU campus for meetings, etc.

The role supports the Project Director, supervises part-time staff, coordinates program services, and helps with student recruitment and outreach. The candidate will hold a Master’s degree in counseling, education, psychology, social work, or related field with at least three years in serving disadvantaged students; experience in academic advising,

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in counseling, education, psychology, social work, or other relevant discipline.
  • At least three years of experience with disadvantaged student populations in secondary or higher education.
  • Experience in academic advising, tutoring, counseling, teaching, or student affairs; computer proficiency.
  • Knowledge of the college application process and financial aid policies and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Project Director with the implementation of goals and objectives.
  • Responsible for part-time staff supervision and coaching.
  • Provide oversight of UB teaching staff at partner school.
  • Aid with student/parent recruitment and outreach.
  • Schedule and facilitate project support services and activities at the partner school.
  • Coordinate program support with partners and SJU departments.
  • Monitor student attendance and provide direct support (SEIJ academic/college & career planning).
  • Update project participants' files and collect project services data (attendance, sign-in sheets, registration forms).
  • Support participants in developing and achieving their Personal Learning Plans (PLP).
  • Support in project reporting and data collection.
  • Participate in partner school committee meetings and training sessions.

Upward Bound is a federal grant program designed to increase the number of low-income and first-generation students who are prepared to graduate from high school and enter and persist inpost-secondary education. Upward Bound provides five-year grantspartnerships to provide services at high poverty, underserved highschools. Upward Bound grantees serve an entire cohort of studentsbeginning in the ninth grade and follow the cohort through theirfirst year of college.

Job Responsibilities
  • Assist the Project Director with the implementation of goalsand objectives

  • Update project participants' files and the collection ofproject services data (i.e.- attendance, event sign-in sheets,registration forms etc.)
  • Serve project participants in developing and achieving skillareas identified in his/her PLP (Personalized Leaming Plan)
  • Support in project reporting and capturing of requireddata
  • Participate regularly in various partner school committeemeetings
  • Participate in training and supervision meetings asrequired
Competencies, Education, Experience
  • Master's degree in counseling, education, psychology,social work, or other relevant discipline
  • At least three years of experience in working withdisadvantaged student populations in a secondary or highereducation setting
  • Experience in academic advising, tutoring, counseling,teaching, or student affairs; computer proficiency
  • Knowledge of the college application process and financial aidpolicies and regulations

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual salaryfor this position is $66,300.
