Job summary

Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota is seeking a part-time Community Meals Assistant to serve and deliver meals to homebound seniors and build friendly community ties. The role runs 9:30am–1:00pm, Monday through Friday, with no weekends. Driving is required and mileage reimbursement is provided.

Qualifications

• Six months to one year of FTE experience in group leadership or food service.
• Must be able to read and follow verbal instructions.
• Willing to build relationships with community organizations to support seniors.
• Creative and knowledgeable in public relations to promote the agency.
• Outgoing and well organized.
• Experience in basic computer applications is preferred (training available).
• Must have a valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate daily meal service operations and ensure timely delivery of meals to homebound seniors.
• Deliver home-delivered meals and package meals for delivery.
• Serve as the first point of contact for customer relations and follow up on concerns.
• Engage with diners and volunteers to promote a welcoming atmosphere.
• Drive as part of the role; mileage reimbursement provided.

Job Summary

This position will serve community dining from bulk to seniors, deliver home-delivered meals, and package home-delivered meals for delivery. The incumbent will represent Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota (LSS) as the provider of this service by serving as the first point of contact for customer relations, following up on concerns, and creating a climate of support for the service in the community. This position will also engage with diners and volunteers to promote a welcoming and inviting atmosphere by assisting in planning and hosting meal events. Driving is required. Mileage reimbursement is available for work related travel!

Key Accomplishments

• Coordinate daily meal service operations, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of nutritious meals to homebound seniors or vulnerable adults.
• Manage volunteer scheduling, training, and retention to maintain efficient meal distribution and positive client experiences.
• Maintain accurate client and volunteer records, meal counts, and program documentation in compliance with organizational and regulatory requirements.
• Conducts client outreach, helps identify unmet needs and connects clients with additional community resources.
• Collaborates with community partners, healthcare providers, and local agencies to expand services and improve program effectiveness.
• Monitors food safety standards and ensures compliance with sanitation and health regulations.
• Resolves client and volunteer concerns promptly, fostering strong relationships and high satisfaction levels.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Experience preferred.
• Must be able to read and follow verbal instructions.
• Six months to one year of full-time equivalent experience in group leadership activities and working with older adults in a host/hostess role or comparable food service experience.
• Must be willing to build strong relationships with community organizations to enhance support services for seniors.
• Must possess creativity and knowledge of public relations to create a positive image of the agency.
• Must be outgoing and well organized.
• Experience in basic computer applications is preferred, but training is available.
• Must be willing to grow with the ever-changing community.
• Valid Driver's License is required.
