Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED; six months of food service experience.
  • Valid driver license with an insured vehicle and a safe driving history for the past three years.
  • Successful registration with the Central Background Registry of the Child Care Division; background checks.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification or ability to obtain within 60 days; ServSafe Manager Certification or ability to obtain within 90 days.
  • Pre-employment physical and drug/alcohol screenings required; renewable every two years.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare food in accordance with CACFP guidelines and menus.
  • Follow recipes and cycle menus to ensure consistent, quality food.
  • Perform light cooking for breakfast and snacks; wash dishes and maintain sanitation.
  • Submit accurate CACFP records and maintain documentation; protect confidentiality of children's records.
  • Deliver meals from kitchen to classrooms; coordinate with Head Start sites for meal pickups.

Your main responsibilities will be to prepare breakfasts and snacks and serves lunches cooked and delivered from commercial Head Start kitchens, washes dishes, and maintains kitchen sanitation. The Site Cook 1 is assigned to large kitchens supports Site Cook 2's with food preparation, delivery, serving, dishwashing, and cleaning. This team offers a lot of growth opportunities and professional development through hands-on experience and education.

Locations may include Salem, Independence, Dallas, Stayton, Woodburn, Jefferson.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma or GED. Six months of experience in food service. Driver qualifications are required for this position. Valid driver license, insured vehicle available for use on the job, and a satisfactory drive record for the previous three years are required. Successful registration with the Central Background Registry of the Child Care Division. CPR/First Aid Certification or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire. Food Handlers Card or the ability to obtain within 30 days of hire. ServSafe Manager Certification or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire. Candidate must pass pre-employment physical examination, renewable every two years. Candidate must pass pre-employment and random drug/alcohol screenings.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Experience with light cooking, and preparing food, for large and small groups. Demonstrated proficiencies with Microsoft Office (including Outlook), videoconferencing platforms, and Web Tools. Must possess excellent organizational, record keeping, and math skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Possesses working knowledge of program policies and procedures and CACFP regulations. Attends required meetings and trainings to stay updated on current policies. Prepares food in compliance with CACFP guidelines, and according to menus and special dietary needs. Follows recipes and cycle menu to ensure consistent, quality food to all children. Performs light cooking for breakfast and snacks. Submits accurate and complete records for all snacks, lunches, special meals, and required reports for CACFP, according to program deadlines. Maintains appropriate documentation and respects the confidentiality of children's records. Picks up cooked lunches from Head Start sites with commercial kitchens. Delivers meals from kitchen to classrooms.

Indoor work environment with frequent interruptions and demands. Occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. Work environment is occasionally warm, humid and temperatures vary (particularly in/near refrigerators and freezers and appliances). Variable and flexible schedule according to program needs.
