Job summary

HDR is seeking a Civil Engineer to join its Building Engineering Services Group. You will design and plan civil production across diverse projects, including site layouts, drainage, and utilities, while collaborating with a team of experts to deliver high-quality solutions.

You will bring a Bachelor’s degree, PE license, and strong leadership and communication skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office and CAD platforms. This on-site role supports HDR’s projects across multiple Iowa locations.

Responsibilities

• Design and plan production for general civil on a wide variety of projects, including site layouts, horizontal and vertical control, grading and drainage, paving, site utilities, and associated civil engineering activities.
• Perform quantity calculations.
• Prepare specifications and contract documents.
• Perform complex assignments exercising judgment in evaluation, selection and modification of standard engineering techniques and procedures.
• Make decisions on significant design and engineering procedures as needed.
• Function as a Technical Specialist or Project Manager on mid-size projects as needed.
• Supervise a small staff of professionals and technicians as needed.
• Perform other duties as required.

Preferred Qualifications

• A minimum of 3 years of experience in general civil engineering.
• Proficient and demonstrated applied experience with CAD civil engineering software such as Bentley Open Roads Designer and/or Autodesk Civil 3D; specialty civil platforms (e.g., Openflows) as required.

• Previous experience in general civil engineering.
• Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.
• Demonstrated leadership and communication skills.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
