Job summary

HDR in Chicago, Illinois is seeking a Digital Design Specialist to contribute to facility site designs for the Data Center market and other markets as opportunities arise.

You will coordinate with the IL/IN civil design team, provide BIM and AutoCAD/Civil 3D support throughout project lifecycles, and help maintain modeling standards and health.

Qualifications

• Technical degree or 3+ years of related experience.
• Proficiency in 3D design software and document management.
• Experience with 3D Coordination tools and BIM workflows.

Responsibilities

• Generate Site Civil BIM elements based on LOD per plan and scope.
• Produce BIM models meeting constraints using current 3D software.
• Prepare detailed drawings, layouts and diagrams within scope, schedule and budget.
• Maintain the discipline model with project information, coordinates, scales, and sheets.
• Coordinate with other discipline models through Design Reviews and 3D Coordination.
• Assist or execute Digital Delivery requirements as needed.
• Duties as assigned by the BES group.

Job description

HDR is looking for a Digital Design Specialist in the Building Engineering Services Business Group in Chicago, Illinois. The role focuses on contributing to the design of facility‑related sites for the Data Center market, with future opportunities in other markets. The specialist will coordinate with the IL/IN civil design team, providing BIM and AutoCAD/Civil 3D support throughout project life cycles.

Responsibilities

• Work under the direct supervision of an Engineer or other technical professional.
• Generate Site Civil BIM elements based on the Level of Development (LOD) outlined in the Digital Delivery Plan and project scope.
• Produce BIM models that meet the modeling environment constraints using current 3D software.
• Prepare detailed drawings, layouts, and diagrams of the design within scope, schedule, and budget.
• Maintain the discipline model including project information, coordinates, scales, orientations, scope boundaries, match‑lines, views, and sheets.
• Produce discipline‑specific documentation with accurate annotations on all modeling output.
• Monitor, improve, and maintain company and client standards and model health.
• Coordinate the design with other discipline models through Design Reviews and the 3D Coordination process.
• Assist or execute additional Digital Delivery requirements identified on the project.
• Additional duties as assigned by the BES Business Group.

Qualifications

• Technical degree or a minimum of 3 years related industry experience.
• Technically qualified with 3D design software and document management infrastructure.
• Competency in Microsoft Office products and communication tools.
• Experience with 3D Coordination tools.
• Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and organizational traits.
• Intermediate understanding of engineering or architectural concepts.
