Job summary

Obsidian is seeking a Bioinformatics & Computational Single-Cell Genomics Expert to design graduate‑level computational problems that test AI systems against real scientific workflows. You will craft challenging tasks, run simulations, interpret results, and guide experiments to uncover hidden information from data.

Candidates should have a graduate degree and hands‑on experience with single‑cell tools such as scanpy, scvelo, squidpy and gudhi, plus strong Python skills in Linux environments;

Qualifications

• Graduate-level training in a relevant STEM field (MS, PhD, or equivalent)
• Proven proficiency with at least one listed scientific software library, demonstrated by publications, open‑source contributions, or professional work
• Strong Python skills — writing problem setups, oracle functions, and validators
• Ability to work independently and refine designs based on feedback
• Comfortable in Linux/terminal environments with remote compute sandboxes
• Available for 15–20 hours per week
• Nice to Have: experience across multiple domains/tools; benchmark/design familiarity; teaching/problem-set design; reproducibility and containers

Responsibilities

• Design problems requiring skilled use of specialized scientific software
• Develop tasks that require multi-step workflows and strategic planning to uncover information
• Test and refine problems against state-of-the-art AI models until target difficulty is reached
