Simulator Design Engineer

Job Term: Contract To Hire/Full Time

Location: Fully remote

Must have 15+ years of experience and be open to travel onsite every few months. Travel is paid by the client.

Start Date: ASAP

Should have a background in Mechanical, Electrical, or I&C. It would be fantastic to have experience in all three, but we understand that may be difficult!

Simulator Software:

Experience with 3 KeyMaster, which is used by the client.

Other software includes 3LM, RELAP5, MELCOR, or equivalent.

Use this software to model within their environment and tune the constants to match what is happening within the power plant.

Take system models from System Engineers, model them inside 3 KeyMaster, and integrate with the plant. Use other software like RELAP and MELCOR for the core.

Job Description:

The client and its subsidiaries are developing the SMR-300, a small modular reactor providing safe, clean energy via nuclear fission. This role is with a global supplier of equipment and systems for nuclear, solar, geothermal, and fossil power sectors.

Join a multidisciplinary team working on the next-generation nuclear power plant. The Simulator Design Engineer will develop and maintain software used in the SMR-300 simulator.

This engineer will apply industry standards, regulatory guidance, and engineering expertise to support control strategy development and simulator-assisted design activities, working within a U.S. Government cost-shared development program.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Design, develop, and maintain high-fidelity nuclear plant simulators.
  • Implement control logic, thermal-hydraulic models, and system responses for real-time simulation.
  • Integrate RELAP5, S3R, and 3KeyMaster into simulation environments.
  • Develop and update thermo-hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical system models.
  • Interface simulators with digital control platforms and plant control systems.
  • Conduct verification and validation testing, diagnose discrepancies, and perform regression testing.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and support operator training programs.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master’s in Mechanical, Electrical, Nuclear Engineering, or related fields.
  • Experience with nuclear power plant systems and process modeling.
  • Proficiency with simulator tools like 3KeyMaster, RELAP5, MELCOR, or equivalents.
  • Programming skills in Python, C++, Fortran, or similar languages are a plus.
  • Understanding of plant control logic, I&C systems, and HSI concepts.
  • Ability to analyze plant operation data and translate into models.
  • Eligible to work according to Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in CFD modeling and multi-physics simulation.
  • Knowledge of digital twin technology and real-time data integration.
  • Familiarity with NRC regulations and standards for simulator certification.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

Why Join Us?

  • Work on cutting-edge nuclear simulation technology.
  • Collaborate with industry experts and engineering teams.
  • Gain experience in high-fidelity plant modeling and control system integration.
  • Enjoy competitive salary, benefits, and growth opportunities.

Thanks & Regards,
