Job summary

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in a healthcare-related field is required; a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferred.
  • One year of related clinical care experience and/or certification (CNA/EMT) or equivalent hospital tech experience.
  • Strong communication, organizational and time-management skills.
  • Proficiency with PC and Mac, Microsoft Office, audiovisual tech, and ability to learn simulation software.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs to set up equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with program and education support, operate simulators, and support BLS instruction.
  • Communicate pre-briefing and orientation to learners, maintaining confidentiality.
  • Provide general IT/AV support and troubleshoot equipment.
  • Keep prep/storage areas clean, safe, and compliant with health regulations; coordinate simulation activities.
  • Set up and operate simulators, troubleshoot, repair, and store equipment.
  • Provide training to faculty and staff; liaise with manufacturers on maintenance.

At Des Moines University Medicine and Health Sciences you will make a meaningful contribution to the dynamic future of medicine and health sciences. DMU is seeking a Simulation Technician II to provide technical, operational, and logistical support for simulation-based education activities. Responsibilities include preparing simulation environments, maintaining equipment and supplies, operating simulation technology, supporting learners and instructors during events, and assisting with Basic Life Support instruction and simulation facilitation.

What you’ll do:
30% Education:
  • Assist with implementation of programs/events and education support as directed which may include operation of simulator(s); check-in/registration, direct flow of participants/learners; Function as the standardized patient, family member, or other scenario participant as directed; support Basic Life Support instruction.
  • Effectively communicating pre-briefing and/or orientation to learning environment for learners, faculty, and other staff while ensuring learner confidentiality.
5% Information Technology:
  • Provide general technical support, troubleshooting, and effective operating of the AV system and IT equipment.
20% Management & Operations:
  • Ensure preparation and storage areas are maintained in a clean, safe, and orderly manner and comply with health and safety regulations.
  • Assist with the planning, coordinating, and executing all simulation activities and services in alignment with the organization mission and strategic plan.
  • Supply inventory and stocking; Ensure clean, safe, and optimal teaching and learning environment including set-up and clean-up of examination rooms, waiting rooms, simulation, rooms, and classrooms.
25% Simulation:
  • Deliver high-fidelity simulation encounters as the voice of the patient, ensuring encounters follow the approved scripted format, including operation of all aspects of the simulation lab.
  • Set up, program, operate, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and store simulators, task trainers, and other simulation equipment and technologies.
  • Provide technical assistance, support, and training to faculty, instructors, and staff, and communicate with manufacturers regarding maintenance, repairs, updates, and technology changes as directed.
15% Theatrics & Staging:
  • Provide comprehensive setup, implementation support, scheduling and/or coordinating for all simulation activities to create an immersive environment.
  • Research, create, apply, and remove moulage/special effects appropriate to the scenario to increase realism.
  • Participates in staff development and perform other duties as assigned.
What we are looking for:
  • Associate degree in healthcare-related field required. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred.
  • One year of related clinical care experience and/or certification as a Nursing Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician, or minimum of one year experience as a technician in a hospital setting (e.g., OR Tech, ED Tech, Vet Tech).
  • Strong communication, organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficiency with PC and Mac platforms, Microsoft Office, audiovisual technology, with the ability to learn and operate simulation software and equipment.
  • Physical ability to lift, move, maintain, and set up computer, audio-visual and simulation lab equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. without assistance.

Total Rewards:

Pay Rate:$28.42 per hour to start, increasing to $29.48 per hour after 6 months.
