Job summary

VCU School of Nursing seeks a dedicated Simulation Technician to coordinate the Clinical Learning Center for simulation experiences. You will ensure readiness of equipment, support multimedia systems, and assist with scenario facilitation.

You'll manage inventory, collaborate with leadership, and participate in ongoing professional development. This full-time, onsite role requires flexibility for evenings or Saturdays.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree or equivalent education/experience required.
  • Experience with simulation tech, computers, or medical equipment.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Experience with event planning, coordination, or production.
  • Respectful, professional conduct with diverse groups.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate activities of the Clinical Learning Center for simulation events.
  • Maintain readiness of all simulation equipment and vendor services.
  • Handle software updates on simulation devices.
  • Manage inventory, supplies, and budget with CLC Director.
  • Set up simulations and provide technical support for multimedia systems.
  • Assist with simulation scenarios and room turnover.
  • Support facilitators and participate in professional development.
  • Attend meetings and contribute to CLC and SN leadership.

Job description

Duties & Responsibilities

The Simulation Technician will coordinate the activities of the Clinical Learning Center in order to support simulation experiences in the SON.

Unit: School Of Nursing MBU

Department: Clinical Learning Center

Responsibilities Include
  • Consults with CLC Director or Assistant Director to identify level of simulation support needed for planned CLC events.
  • Maintain readiness of all simulation equipment through repair, maintenance and/or facilitation of vendor services.
  • Perform and/or facilitate software updates regularly on all simulation equipment.
  • Maintain inventory through, tracking supply levels, ordering needed supplies, and collaborating with the CLC Director to stay within budget.
  • Collaborates with CLC Director to manage CLC requests, calendar, and room schedule
  • Set-up for simulation and other CLC events accurately and timely.
  • Provide technical support for computer-based multimedia systems and components and other technical equipment as needed.
  • Running or assisting with simulation scenarios as needed.
  • Clean-up and reset of simulation rooms.
  • Ensure the simulation supply room is orderly and products are rotated and noted for expiration dates.
  • Support simulation and other CLC events by assisting simulation facilitators with multimedia systems, operation of technical equipment, restocking and turnover between scenarios, and assist with the facilitation of standardized patient simulations.
  • Sign off/complete assigned projects, to include regular team updates and communication, within agreed timeline.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development through attendance at conferences, participation in professional organizations, educational opportunities, etc.
  • Work collaboratively as a member of the CLC simulation team.
  • Attend and actively contribute to CLC and School of Nursing meetings and events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Flexible schedule to match needs of CLC each semester.
  • May include Saturdays or evening hours.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in related field, or equivalent education, training, and experience.
  • Experience working with simulation technology, computers, or medical equipment.
  • Experience troubleshooting technical issues and applying problem-solving skills to resolve them.
  • Experience with event planning, coordination, or production.
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Previous simulation and/or IT experience
  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHOS) certification
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support Instructor Certification, or willingness to obtain
  • Working knowledge of simulation technology and hands-on experience working in a simulation environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of simulator software.
  • Familiar with the operation and troubleshooting of all simulation and skills lab equipment, including but not limited to manikins, laptops, PYXIS, ophthalmoscopes, otoscopes, IV pumps, vital sign machines.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with faculty, staff and students to provide technical support in computer system operations and technology.
