Responsibilities

  • Operate simulations by programming, testing, and running scenarios with faculty instructors to prepare learning sessions.
  • Gain proficiency operating simulator technologies including models, task trainers, screen-based simulators, full-body patient simulators, and VR surgical simulators.
  • Provide operational assistance in the Simulation Collaborative.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and replace simulation equipment and software as needed.
  • Communicate needs for technology and equipment to leadership for program maintenance.
  • Gather data to support operational, research, and commercial initiatives.
  • Attend technical training and conferences to stay updated on simulation advancements.
  • Lead facility tours and engage in events to showcase programs.
  • Perform trained or scripted roles in simulation encounters as needed.

Job description

The Simulation Collaborative at the University of Virginia School of Nursing seeks a Simulation Operations Specialist, Simulation Operations Specialist Intermediate, or Simulation Operations Specialist Senior to support the education of medical students, nursing students, and other members of the healthcare team in the Simulation Collaborative. This position assists in educational activities by offering pre- and post-simulation and surgical training support, coordinating technical and administrative tasks, maintaining documentation and resources, conducting simulation sessions, and collaborating with faculty and staff on skills and scenario development. This position will support the daily operations of the Simulation Collaborative, and other healthcare education activities, facilitating high-quality experiential learning activities for our learners.

This is a full-time salaried position with hours that will vary based on the scheduled educational needs of our learners. You can expect an average of 40 hours per week with the possibility of working early mornings, evenings, and weekends as the schedule dictates.

Responsibilities
Simulation Operations Specialists
  • Operate simulations by programming, testing, and running scenarios alongside faculty instructors to ensure the Simulation Center and its equipment are prepared for learning sessions.
  • Gain proficiency operating a range of simulator technologies, encompassing anatomic models and task trainers, screen-based simulators, full-body patient simulators, and virtual reality surgical simulators.
  • Provide operational assistance in the Simulation Collaborative.
  • Acquire proficiency in all facets of equipment operation, maintenance, support, troubleshooting, repair, and replacement.
  • Communicate and provide feedback to the Director/Assistant Director of Simulation Operations, regarding technology, equipment, operational, and other identified needs essential for the overall maintenance and functionality of supported programs.
  • Gather data to support operational, research, and commercial initiatives as needed.
  • Engage in technical training as required and attend conferences to stay updated on advancements in simulation technology.
  • Lead facility tours and engage in events to showcase our programs.
  • Perform a trained or scripted role in simulation encounters as needed.
Simulation Operations Specialists Intermediate/Senior
  • Execute simulation sessions without supervision and collaborating with faculty and staff on scenario development.
  • Maintain and update simulation hardware and software.
  • Care for equipment post-simulation, ensuring readiness for use in the next simulation.
  • Maintain inventory for high-fidelity simulation rooms.
  • Create learning materials and scenario documentation.
Minimum Qualifications
Specialist
  • Education: Bachelor's degree required; or equivalent combination of education/certification/experience in lieu of degree.
Intermediate
  • Education: Bachelor's degree required
  • Experience: 2+ years of relevant experience required
Senior
  • Education: Bachelor's degree required
  • Experience: 5+ years of relevant experience required
Preferred Qualifications
  • A CHSOS, CHSE or CHSE-A preferred
  • Master's degree in healthcare simulation, a related healthcare or related educational field
  • Two years of healthcare simulation experience
Physical Demands

Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently traveling and bending/stooping and reaching (overhead, extensive, and repetitive). Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly. May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.

Salary Range
  • Anticipated Hiring Range for the Simulation Operations Specialist - $50,000 - $65,000
  • Anticipated Hiring Range for the Simulation Operations Specialist Intermediate - $65,000 - $75,000
  • Anticipated Hiring Range for the Simulation Operations Specialist Senior - $75,000 - $85,000
