Position Highlights

A Simulation Nurse Specialist is a vital role in nursing education that bridges the gap between clinical theory and hands‑on practice providing nursing students with simulation spaces to practice the skills needed to be a nurse. The Simulation Nurse Specialist is responsible for supporting a healthcare simulation laboratory learning environment based on contemporary best practices, leading edge technology and the testing of new approaches. The Simulation Nurse Specialist will collaborate with the U of A College of Nursing Simulation Team and under the direction of the Simulation Director or Site Coordinator and work with faculty to support student skills acquisition, deliberative practice, and simulation‑based education activities.

Duties & Responsibilities
Simulation-Based Education, Faculty Support, and Student Proficiency Improvement
  • Works collaboratively with the Simulation Nurse faculty, program faculty, and external departments to translate clinical curricula into simulation scenarios.
  • Assists in the design, implementation, evaluation, and refinement of a wide variety of simulation activities.
  • Supports faculty and staff during planning, trialing, validation, and running of laboratory and/or simulation‑based education activities.
  • Demonstrates application of simulation‑based education best practices.
  • Provides technical instruction assistance to students practicing clinical skills.
  • Participates in guiding students in need of improvement with clinical skills.
  • Supports orientation and mentorship of new faculty and staff.
  • Supports the development and refinement of Simulation Team processes, policies, and procedures.
  • Prepares, maintains, and uses forms, records, and reports using a variety of evidence‑supported resources.
Simulation Operations, Technology, and Event Management
  • Prepares simulation‑based education environments with careful attention to details.
  • Participates in high‑fidelity simulations as a standardized participant, supporting faculty and learners in the simulation room, and/or behind the glass as a Simulation Operator, including participation in briefing and debriefing sessions.
  • Performs manikin software programming and implementation of simulation scenarios.
  • Operates simulators according to scenario guides and activity specifications.
  • Utilizes software, applications, and databases as directed.
  • Maintains awareness and careful use of simulation‑based education activities calendar(s).
  • Participates in developing the calendar, schedules, plans, implementation, tracking, and billing documents for assigned simulations.
  • Demonstrates and shares subject matter expertise, leads tours in the Simulation Center, demonstrates equipment and procedures, teaches students, guests, and new staff members about simulation, and guides in the use of various equipment for simulated procedures.
Resource and Inventory Management
  • Participates in efficient and cost‑effective management of consumable supplies, durable resources, and manikin maintenance, including minor repairs, preventative maintenance, and general cleanliness.
  • Restocks, organizes, and maintains supply areas and carts.
  • Provides ongoing support and management of student laboratory kits.
  • Assists in maintaining an organized ongoing supply inventory, placing orders, and stocking supplies.
  • Works with student workers as assigned.
Institutional Collaboration, Committee Work, and Stakeholder Communication
  • Communicates and presents information to teams and stakeholders.
  • Collaborates/communicates with faculty in a variety of nursing programs (BSN, BSN‑IH, MEPN, DNP).
  • Attends committee meetings as assigned regarding simulation and general College of Nursing activities.
  • Participates in Simulation Team meetings.

  • Proficient computer and healthcare‑related technology skills.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
  • 8 years of nursing or related experience, Valid Arizona Nursing License.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) and/or Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialists (CHSOS).
  • Experience with a variety of high‑fidelity manikins and software.
  • Simulation‑based education experience.
  • Interprofessional education experience.
  • Integrative Health‑related experience.
  • Effective and professional written and verbal communication.
  • Motivation to create a collaborative academic environment.
  • Receptive to mentoring, feedback and coaching.
