Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday, varied hours between 7a-5p. Occasional evening or weekend shifts may be required.
General Description: The Simulation Operations Specialist will provide technical and mechanical support for the Clinical Learning and Simulation Center (CLSC). This individual will be responsible for the audiovisual equipment, inventory, support, maintenance and setup, computer software support, as well as the care of the mannequins and other equipment used in the simulation program. Reports to the Simulation Director.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Maintain current knowledge of simulation/lab equipment catalogs and operation manuals.
- Program simulator software to model simulator’s physiological response to instructor specifications.
- Operate patient simulators and cameras for the duration of simulations.
- Operate and maintain audio-visual and debriefing systems.
- Set up and take down simulation laboratory equipment; may involve rapid turnover of simulation lab set up.
- Maintain and repair all simulation equipment, including patient simulators, computers, monitors, and a variety of medical equipment.
- Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and contact vendors.
- Communicate effectively with faculty, administrative staff, and other simulation center staff.
- Communicate effectively with manufacturers regarding maintenance, repairs, updates, and technology changes.
- Collaborate with supervisor to organize, maintain, and restock simulation supplies.
- Provide technical support for task trainers and multimedia peripherals including beds/examination tables, headwalls, patient monitors, and other health care equipment, medication dispensing systems, and vital sign monitors.
- Provide theatrical production (costuming and moulage) for simulation scenarios as requested.
- Provide technical assistance, support, and training to faculty, instructors, and staff in the use of simulation equipment.
- Coordinate simulation center schedule (including Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE), sim, and classroom) in compliance with simulation center policies working to prevent scheduling conflicts.
- Provide recommendations on equipment, supplies, and materials.
- Collect data for ongoing research or grant requirements.
- Set up and maintain computer-based training programs.
- Maintain simulation activities and learner confidentiality.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and human anatomy/physiology.
- Mechanical skills to competently maintain and use equipment in the simulation center.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral) to interact with and work effectively with other faculty, staff, students, and vendors.
- Ability to provide technical support in networking, computer hardware, or software.
- Familiarity with PC and Mac platforms with skill in MS Office and the ability to learn additional software programs, including audiovisual and computerized simulation equipment.
- Knowledge of operation of standard audio-visual equipment: projectors, microphones, portable screens, media players, etc.
- Organizational and time management skills to keep materials in order, track various projects, maintain files, and follow through assignments to completion.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
- Ability to quickly learn new technology.
- Ability to express technical information clearly and simply to non-technical persons.
Required Qualifications:
- 3 years of related experience (e.g., healthcare, technology support, etc.). Education may substitute for some experience.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Commitment to obtain Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) within two years of hire date.
- Finalist applicants must satisfactorily complete pre-employment background checks.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree or higher in a related field.
- Experience in healthcare simulation including maintenance, repair, and technical support of simulation equipment and/or medical device systems in an educational or healthcare delivery setting.
- Clinical knowledge and experience working in a healthcare-related field such as EMT, paramedic, or other allied health profession certification and training.
- Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS).
Work Conditions:
Physical Requirements: Ability to lift, move, maintain, and set up computer, audio-visual, and simulation lab equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. without assistance.
