Job description

Position Overview

The University of Maryland, Baltimore, School of Nursing has an exciting opportunity for a Simulation Instructional Technology Specialist. The specialist supports the application of learning strategies used in clinical simulation, contributes to simulation creation, piloting, and revision, incorporates objective-based simulation into programs, collaborates with faculty on projects, and participates in professional development and continuing education programs.

Primary Duties
  • Participate in daily operations of simulation equipment and software for nursing student education.
  • Assist in developing the operational plan for healthcare simulation-based educational activities.
  • Support faculty, staff, and students with simulation equipment and supplies during course planning.
  • Provide training on simulation technology to novice operators and technicians.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to design and customize simulation-based educational activities aligned with curriculum.
  • Assist in planning, acquisition, application, and implementation of new simulation equipment, software, and supplies.
  • Assist in collecting data related to simulation equipment usage.
  • Support simulation sessions, trainings, tours, and events for internal and external groups.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree in a related field such as Graphic or Instructional Design. Master's degree preferred; related experience may be substituted for education.

Experience: Two years of related experience, including proficiency with audio/visual, multimedia, video production, or IT resources. Experience with healthcare simulation equipment and software preferred; experience as a simulation operator who can set up, operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair equipment applicable to simulation-based education is preferred.

Certification/Licensure: Certified Healthcare Simulation Operation Specialist (CHSOS) preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Knowledge of hardware and software platforms used in healthcare simulation.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply best practices in healthcare simulation.
  • Ability to solve technical problems and operate computers and peripherals used in the simulation environment.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others, demonstrating professional, ethical, respectful, and courteous behavior. Ability to interact pleasantly and positively with others to meet customer expectations.

Hiring Range: $65,000 - $75,000 (commensurate with education and experience).
