About the role

We are building the next generation of solid‑state, grid‑interactive power blocks that enable high‑density, flexible power delivery for datacenters, renewable energy systems, and advanced microgrids.

The Simulation Engineer is responsible for developing, maintaining, and validating component‑level and system‑level simulation models for Solid‑State Transformers (SSTs) and microgrid architectures. The primary focus of the role is on MATLAB/Simulink‑based modeling of power electronics, controls, and grid interaction, supporting product development, application engineering, and system validation. This role collaborates closely with application, and standards engineers, providing simulation insight to guide architecture decisions, control strategy development, and performance validation across a range of grid‑connected and microgrid use cases. Data center and DER‑enabled applications represent key but not exclusive deployment scenarios.

Key Responsibilities
System‑Level Modeling & Simulation
  • Work with product teams to develop and maintain simulation models for SST‑based microgrid systems
  • Build system level models at multiple abstraction levels to balance simulation speed and fidelity
  • Evaluate system behavior related to:
    • Voltage, current, and power control loops
    • Grid synchronization and islanding detection
    • Dynamic stability and transient response
  • Support performance analysis across a wide range of grid conditions and operating points
Fault & Protection Studies
  • Perform fault and protection studies using time‑domain simulation.
  • Model and analyze:
    • Short‑circuit and fault conditions (AC and DC where applicable)
    • Inverter‑based fault response and current‑limiting behavior
    • SST fault ride‑through and protective actions
  • Support development and validation of:
    • Protection schemes and logic
    • Fault detection thresholds and timing
    • Coordination between SSTs, DERs (where applicable), and utility protection
  • Provide simulation data to support design decisions, protection settings, and utility or internal reviews
HIL (Hardware‑in‑the‑Loop) Simulation Support
  • Work closely with Hardware‑in‑the‑Loop(HIL) teams
  • Adapt and deploy models for real‑time execution in HIL environments
  • Collaborate with controls and test teams to:
    • Validate control firmware against simulated plant models
    • Exercise fault, protection, and corner‑case scenarios safely
    • Correlate HIL results with offline simulations and hardware testing
    • Support debugging and refinement of models based on HIL and lab feedback
Grid Interaction & Standards‑Driven Analysis
  • Simulate grid interaction scenarios relevant to US interconnection expectations, supporting analysis aligned with standards such as:
    • IEEE 1547 / IEEE 1547.1 (as applicable)
  • Provide simulation evidence to support:
    • Design reviews
    • Certification and compliance readiness
    • Utility and customer technical evaluations
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or related field
  • 3+ years of experience in power system or power electronics simulation
  • Strong hands‑on experience with MATLAB/Simulink, PSCAD, or PSS/E, including:
