Job summary

Huntington Ingalls Industries (UxS) seeks a Simulation Engineer 2 to develop and integrate system simulation frameworks for autonomous vessels. You will model hydrodynamics and build virtual testbeds, connecting hardware to simulators to enable robust autonomy testing.

Applicants should have a related degree with 2 years experience, or equivalent experience, plus strong Linux, programming, and ROS2 skills. Security clearance is required.

Qualifications

• 2 years experience with Bachelors in related field; 0 years with Masters; or High School Diploma with 6 years relevant experience.
• Familiarity with Linux and programming.
• Ocean/Marine engineering knowledge: hydrostatics, hydrodynamics, marine vessels.
• Ability to integrate hardware and software in the loop with a simulation environment.
• Ability to work in a systems engineering oriented project.
• Mathematical modeling for system simulations.
• Interest in robotic systems and ROS2.
• Strong technical writing and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Eligibility for government security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Develops and integrates system simulation frameworks and models.
• Creates software that simulates users and system behaviors.
• Models environments and conducts trade studies via simulation.
• Develops virtual models for vehicles, sensors, actuators, and equipment.
• Sets up HWIL simulations to support projects.
• Assists in autonomy behaviors, path planning, and control software.
• Contributes to acceptance of modeling standards across processes.
