Job summary

Honda Racing Corporation USA in Santa Clarita, CA is seeking a Propulsion Simulation Engineer to build and correlate advanced 1D engine models. You will optimize race engine performance, airflow, turbocharger sizing, and transient power delivery to support powertrain calibration.

Experience with GT-Power/GT-SUITE and Python for data post-processing is essential. Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Automotive, or Aerospace Engineering (Master’s or PhD preferred) with 1–3+ years of propulsion

• Analytical engineering mindset with strong attention to detail.
• Strong cross-functional communication skills.
• Experience interpreting data and Alloying Python scripting for data post-processing.

Responsibilities

• Build, calibrate, and maintain 1D engine and propulsion models in GT-Power including complete intake and exhaust.
• Correlate simulation models against dyno and track test data for torque, power, airflow, BSFC, and thermal profiles.
• Simulate full-load and transient engine cycles to support powertrain calibration and drivability.
• Conduct DOE optimization to evaluate valve timing, boost control, and turbo sizing.
• Translate 3D CFD insights into 1D models and communicate calibration trade-offs to race engineering teams.

About the Role:

Honda Racing Corporation USA (HRC) is seeking a Propulsion Simulation Engineer in Santa Clarita, CA. You will build and correlate advanced 1D engine simulation models using GT-Power / GT-Suite, optimizing race engine performance, airflow, turbocharger sizing, and transient power delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

• Build, calibrate, and maintain 1D engine and propulsion models in GT-Power including complete intake and exhaust.
• Correlate simulation models against dyno and track test data for torque, power, airflow, BSFC, and thermal profiles.
• Simulate full-load and transient engine cycles to support powertrain calibration and drivability.
• Conduct Design of Experiments (DOE) optimization to evaluate valve timing, boost control, and turbo sizing.
• Translate 3D CFD insights into 1D models and communicate calibration trade-offs to race engineering teams.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Automotive, or Aerospace Engineering (Master's or PhD preferred).
• 1-3+ years of experience in propulsion simulation and engine performance analysis using GT-Power / GT-SUITE.
• Solid grasp of internal combustion engine thermodynamics, gas dynamics, and heat transfer.
• Experience with engine dynamometer testing and data post-processing using Python.
• Strong analytical reasoning, attention to detail, and cross-functional technical communication.
