Qualifications

Position Summary

The Simulation and Lab Technician supports the Simulation, Technology, and Research (STAR) Center and Novi campus simulation and skills labs with direct responsibilities related to equipment, supplies, coordination of workspaces, and adherence to workplace standards. Demonstrates operational and technical proficiency with all aspects of the operation, maintenance, support, troubleshooting, implementation, hardware/software updates, training, and repair of all simulation labs’ inventory, such as the human patient simulator systems, simulation task trainers, associated medical equipment, and computer/audiovisual systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

(1) Simulation Lab Preparation and Operation

  • Ensure the proper setup, functionality, and skill setup for scheduled simulations in collaboration with simulation faculty.
  • Provides orientation and training for faculty and staff on utilizing simulation hardware and software.
  • Orientate, mentor, and support simulation team members (Undergrad and Graduate Programs) to function the equipment.
  • Ensures that appropriate and adequate supplies are available to students and clinical faculty for scheduled simulation and skill experiences.
  • Operate patient simulators (voice and physiological parameters) and patient monitors during scenario-based training sessions.
  • Supports the integration of simulation and instructional technologies throughout Detroit Mercy’s College of Health Professions to achieve interdisciplinary interaction.

(2) Simulation Lab Maintenance

  • Create and communicate simulation and skills lab schedules with students, staff, and clinical instructors.
  • Maintain accurate records and up-to-date inventory of equipment, supplies, simulation warranties, maintenance of simulation equipment, technology, and software codes.
  • Coordinates with vendors related to various modalities (manikin, task trainers, virtual reality, etc.) of equipment for maintenance, installation, troubleshooting, and in-services.
  • Maintains online policy and procedure manuals related to simulation and skill labs.
  • Assist in conducting tours as requested for internal and external customers.
  • Assists with coordinating events and activities in the Simulation Technology and Research Center.
  • Ensures that simulation and skill labs comply with all OSHA and work environment mandates.
  • Attends safety meetings and provides documentation to The University’s Safety Team members.

All other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: A two-year college degree or completion of a specialized course of study at a business or trade school or 18 months to four years of work experience in a related field.
  • Experience: Two years to five years (Equivalent combination of education and employment).

Physical Requirements

Job may require lifting light weight objects (1 to 10 pounds) with no repetitive bending or stooping. Occasionally lift average weight objects (1 to 10 pounds).

Work Environment

  • Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a normal office.
  • Working Conditions Conditions are those of a typical office, classroom, healthcare environment, requiring frequent oral and written communication with college employees, students, and vendors, the presentation of information on-line and in face-to-face settings, and the ability to enter data and written communications in electronic format in a timely manner. The ability to be generally and continuously aware of the safe and appropriate operation of the lab equipment and material is essential.

Salary/Pay Information

Commensurate with experience and education

Anticipated Schedule

The individual in this position is expected to be generally present and available throughout the year during the normal business hours of the college and may occasionally have work obligations outside of the college’s normal business hours. A flexible schedule of 40 hours per week.
