Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. is seeking a Silicon Photonics Validation and Characterization Test Engineer in the Optical IO group in San Jose.

You will develop validation and characterization and test solutions for silicon photonics, collaborating across design, DFT, packaging, and partners to drive production-ready processes. The role requires leadership in test engineering, strong communication across distributed teams, and hands-on expertise with high-speed and optical test equipment.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in optical interconnects and silicon photonics.
• Familiar with general test and manufacturing of silicon photonics.
• Strong communication and ability to work with geographically distributed engineering teams.
• Software development for test automation (PyVISA, MATLAB, or similar).
• Familiar with signal processing techniques (FFE, DFE, CTLE) or optical comms concepts.
• Hands-on experience with high-speed test equipment (BER testers, oscilloscopes, VNAs, AWGs).
• Hands-on experience with optical test equipment (lasers, powermeters, OSAs, OTDRs, amplifiers).
• Hands-on experience with electrooptic wafer and die-level test systems.
• Experience leading validation and characterization teams.
• Industrial experience validating leading edge EIC/PIC products in high-volume production.

Responsibilities

• Architect and define test solutions for silicon photonics at wafer-sort, die-, and CPO-level.
• Collaborate with design, packaging, and suppliers to address performance, yield, reliability, and quality issues.
• Interface with suppliers to provide test inputs and requirements for production-end solutions.
• Train teams on silicon photonics from design to volume test.
• Identify and mitigate test challenges; lead large technical projects.
• Develop test fixtures with hardware, PCB, and firmware engineers.
• Develop test automation software with design engineers.
