Job summary

CN is seeking a Signals & Communications Apprentice in Wisconsin to install, repair, test, and maintain railway signaling and related systems. You will train on-site with paid classroom sessions and progress toward qualification as a Signals and Communications Maintainer.

Requires a high school diploma or GED, CN apprenticeship completion, and valid driver’s licenses. The role involves outdoor work, shift flexibility, and safety-focused operations.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Completion of CN’s apprenticeship program with in-class theory and hands-on lab work.
• Valid Driver’s License and CDL.
• Ability to understand electrical, electronic, and mechanical principles.
• Strong safety awareness and the ability to work in varied environments.

Responsibilities

• Install, repair, maintain, test, and inspect signal systems and apparatus.
• Perform construction duties: digging, wiring, setting piers, installing equipment.
• Handle highway grade crossing protection and yard operations.
• Use hand tools and test instruments; work on track high-rail equipment.
• Maintain a safe working environment by following CN safety policies.
