Job summary

Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) in Laurel, MD seeks a Signal and Image Processing Engineer to develop and advance algorithms for electromagnetic systems supporting government and military maritime missions. You will design and prototype signal/image processing methods to extract information from sensor data and improve situational awareness for warfighters.

Qualifications

  • BS degree in electrical engineering, mathematics, physics, computer science, or related field.
  • Experience applying signal processing, image processing, pattern recognition, machine learning, or deep learning to extract information from sensors.
  • Experience prototyping algorithms using MATLAB or Python.
  • Active Top Secret security clearance and US citizenship.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and evaluate signal and image processing algorithms to extract information from sensor systems.
  • Develop filtering, detection, estimation, tracking, and classification algorithms using simulated and real data.
  • Evaluate real-world performance of current algorithms and recommend improvements.
  • Apply advances in signal processing to new challenges for sponsors and collaborate with DoD/IC partners.
  • Participate in the algorithm development life cycle from data curation through deployment and benchmarking.
  • Communicate findings through code, presentations, and technical reports.
  • Expand knowledge of electromagnetic systems and maritime domain.
