Responsibilities

JOB TITLE: SIGN TECHNICIAN II/CORRECTIONS OFFICER

REPORTS TO: ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT
DEPARTMENT (S): ROAD MAINTENANCE

Operates small-medium equipment at a skilled level including a sign truck, post driver, post puller, etc. used in the installation of traffic control devices. Required to supervise and train outside inmate details) and perform manual labor in the maintenance and/or repair of county-maintained traffic control devices. Also assisting in inputting assets into an asset management program and the fabrication of traffic control devices.

Operates a sign truck to transport materials for the installation/repair of traffic control devices.

Performs basic maintenance on the sign truck and traffic control devices.

Operates and performs semi-skilled labor in the daily maintenance of installing, repairing, cleaning, and fabricating traffic control devices.

Operates a computer/tablet for work tasks and assignments, email communication, and asset input within the department.

May perform road closures as assigned.

Hall County Sign Technicians II / Correctional Officers will be required to oversee an outside work detail of inmates from the Correctional Institution, always assuring their safety and security.

Regular and predictable attendance is required.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

High School Diploma or G.E.D.

One year Equipment Operator I experience required.

MUTCD Guidelines:

A thorough understanding of the Manual on Uniform traffic Control Devices ( < https://mutcd.fhwa.dot.gov/ > ) to ensure signs meet national, federal, and state visibility and placement regulations.

Safety Certifications:

Require or ability to obtain American Traffic Safety Services Associations (ATSSA) ( < https://www.atssa.com/ > ) flagger or traffic control technician certifications.

Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the minimum level of qualifications stated above.

Licenses and Certifications:

Valid Class C Driver's License (CDL A or B preferred) and a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).

POST Certification required.

Due to the safety-sensitive nature of this position, incumbents will be subject to random drug testing.

Essential functions occasionally require incumbents to be on-call; work irregular hours (i.e. nights and/or weekends); and attend work-related meetings and training.

Sensory Ability:

Essential Functions require the ability to use effective verbal and written communication; and use of hand/eye coordination and fine manipulation to use tools and equipment.

Environmental Factors:

Essential functions are continuously performed with exposure to risk of bodily injury from hazards including chemical, sharp objects/tools, heavy machinery, and traffic; dirt/mud, fumes, gases, odors, dust, grease and oil; moving mechanical parts; extreme noise; vibration; and wet, slippery floors/surfaces. Incumbents continuously must be able to work with others.

Essential functions are frequently performed with exposure to adverse environmental conditions, including inclement weather or dry environments; extreme hot or cold temperatures; risk of bodily injury from biological hazards; working in high heights/high places or constricted spaces; and hot temperature devices including burners and flame torches.

Essential functions are occasionally performed with exposure to risk of bodily injury from electrical hazards. Incumbents occasionally must be able to work alone.

Incumbents regularly must be able to work around equipment/machinery; drive county vehicles and other equipment; and walk on uneven ground.
