Job summary

Waco Independent School District seeks a dedicated Interpreter – Sign Language (Non-Certified) to provide accurate interpretation between Deaf/Hard of Hearing students and hearing staff. The role emphasizes fidelity, cultural mediation, and collaboration with classroom teams to ensure equal access to instruction.

The interpreter will maintain confidentiality, pursue ongoing professional development, and support Deaf culture while interpreting in classrooms and campus activities.

Qualifications

• Must have at least 1-2 years experience with Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals.
• At least 1-2 years of experience with PK-12 students.
• Experience in an educational setting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Render messages with fidelity for students and staff using ASL/English.
• Match communication to students’ language needs, especially Deaf culture.
• Prepare for class by meeting with instructors and reviewing materials.
• Maintain confidentiality per RID Code of Professional Conduct.
