Job summary

Purple Communications, Inc. is seeking a Sign Language Interpreter to deliver on-site interpreting and video remote interpreting for deaf and hard of hearing communities. The role requires NAD/RID certifications and fluent ASL and English, with travel as needed.

You will uphold FCC regulations, provide excellent customer service, and participate in professional development. The position offers varied shifts and the chance to grow with a national service provider.

Qualifications

• Must have NAD IV/V certification or BEI Advanced/Master or equivalent RID certification.
• Fluent ASL and spoken English.
• Must provide accurate interpretation.
• Understanding of Deaf culture.
• Adhere to NAD-RID Code of Professional Conduct.
• Must be 18 years or older.

Responsibilities

• Provide effective video remote interpreting, and on-site interpreting for consumers.
• Support and model the company's mission and values.
• Provide excellent customer service while maintaining a respectful and professional attitude with customers and colleagues.
• Exhibit punctuality and preparedness for shifts, respectful interaction with colleagues and supervisors, and timely record keeping.
• Adhere to FCC regulations and company policies.
• Demonstrate ability to adapt quickly to new technologies and multitask during interpreting.
• Travel as required and maintain appropriate transport.
• Participate in company-sponsored training for Professional Development.

Pay Range: $15.74-$65 (based on location, education, certifications, and interpreter specialties)

Interpreter Job Responsibilities

• Provide effective video remote interpreting, and on-site interpreting for consumers
• Support and model the company's mission and values
• Provide excellent customer service while maintaining a respectful and professional attitude with customers and colleagues
• Exhibit professional behavior at all times including punctuality and preparedness for shifts, respectful and collaborative interaction with colleagues and supervisors, and timely and accurate record keeping.
• Adhere to all policies and procedures as outlined by the company and all FCC regulations
• Demonstrate the ability to adapt quickly to new and changing technologies
• Multi-task between interpreting effectively and utilizing video-based technology
• Participate in company-sponsored training for Professional Development
• Exhibit the ability to meet performance expectations with minimal supervision
• Possess the ability to work effectively in a fast paced, dynamic environment
• Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills in all settings
• Ability to independently travel. Where driving is required, access to a vehicle, valid driver's license and required insurance.

Interpreter Qualifications / Skills

• Must have a valid and current NAD IV/V; BEI Advanced or Master; TX BEI 3, 4 or 5; MI BEI 2 or 3; or RID certification
• Fluent ASL and spoken English language skills
• Able to provide accurate interpretation
• Understanding of Deaf culture
• Thorough knowledge of and adherence to the NAD-RID Code of Professional Conduct
• You must be 18 years or older to apply

Education And Experience Requirements

• Three (3) years of professional interpreting experience (preferred)
• Possess, as applicable, state licensure or credential requirements

Work Environment

• Must be able to work 15 hours of VRI per six weeks
• Must have bandwidth of at least 1Mbps with uninterrupted video streaming quality
• Must have a secure lockable room
• Must be able to provide own computer equipment; a laptop will suffice. MacBook Air, Chromebooks and AMD processors are not approved.
• Must attend and successfully complete a 4 hour New Hire Training

Employees may experience the following physical demands for extended periods of time:

• Sitting, standing and walking (95-100%)
• Keyboarding (40-60%)
• Viewing computer monitor, videophone, and cell phone (40-60%)
• Lifting computers and other equipment.
• Position may require some travel.
