The Sign Assembly Technician turns fabricated and painted components into complete, installation-ready signage. Primary responsibilities are manufacturing finished channel letters and completing the final decoration, electrical assembly, and reassembly of custom signs before management quality control.

This position follows approved drawings, work orders, electrical layouts, and company procedures to produce accurate, safe, durable work. As the final production-level quality checkpoint, the technician identifies and corrects defects, missing components, and specification discrepancies before final inspection.

What You'll Do:

• Channel Letter Production:
• Review drawings and work orders; verify dimensions, materials, colors, copy, and illumination requirements before starting.
• Set up and operate the channel letter machine to form returns accurately and safely within training and authorization.
• Fit and staple backs to returns, maintaining proper shape, alignment, and secure construction.
• Apply trim cap to acrylic faces with clean joints, consistent fit, and finished appearance.
• Install LED modules, wiring, pass-throughs, connectors, and power leads according to approved layouts, load requirements, polarity, and company UL procedures.
• Seal and weatherproof assemblies as required to prevent water intrusion and protect electrical components.
• Test illumination and workmanship; correct loose connections, uneven lighting, shadows, light leaks, sharp edges, and cosmetic defects.

• Final Sign Assembly:
• Confirm all fabricated and painted parts are present, undamaged, and consistent with the work order before assembly.
• Prepare surfaces and apply vinyl graphics accurately, with proper placement, alignment, adhesion, and finish.
• Reassemble cabinets, panels, faces, frames, retainers, and related components using the correct hardware, fasteners, sealants, and gaskets.
• Wire illuminated signs and securely route and protect wiring according to drawings, manufacturer instructions, electrical requirements, and company procedures.
• Perform functional testing and troubleshoot electrical or assembly issues before the sign advances.
• Apply required UL labels only after verifying the sign meets the applicable construction requirements and the company's authorized UL labeling process.
• Clean finished signs, protect painted and decorated surfaces, and package or stage completed work to prevent damage.

• Quality, Workflow, and Safety:
• Complete a thorough pre-QC inspection against approved drawings and work orders, including copy, dimensions, colors, finish, vinyl, fit, fastening, sealing, electrical operation, and labeling.
• Correct issues within the scope of the role and promptly document or elevate discrepancies that require direction or rework by another department.
• Record completed work, testing, material usage, and production status accurately.
• Coordinate handoffs with fabrication, paint, vinyl, project management, and production leadership to keep work moving on schedule.
• Use materials responsibly, report shortages or damaged parts, and help minimize scrap and rework.
• Maintain a clean, organized work area and keep tools and equipment in safe operating condition.
• Follow all safety rules, wear required PPE, use tools only as trained, and report hazards, injuries, and equipment concerns promptly.

What You Need:

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Mechanical aptitude and the ability to learn sign construction, channel letter production, and basic electrical assembly.
• Ability to read production drawings, work orders, measurements, and material specifications.
• Ability to use tape measures, hand tools, pneumatic tools, power tools, and production equipment safely and accurately; training provided.
• Experience with low-voltage wiring, vinyl application, sign fabrication, or manufacturing is preferred but not required.
• Strong attention to detail and a consistent commitment to quality.
• Ability to identify defects, troubleshoot problems, and ask for clarification before proceeding when specifications are unclear.
• Ability to organize multiple jobs, maintain accurate documentation, and meet production priorities.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with other production departments and leaders.
• Dependable attendance, willingness to learn, and commitment to safe work practices.

Working Conditions:

Works in a fast-paced production environment with routine exposure to noise, dust, temperature variation, sharp edges, adhesives, cleaners, paints, solvents, and electrical components. Work is primarily indoors and requires use of appropriate personal protective equipment.

Required Work Schedule:

Work hours are 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday. There may be occasional variations in work hours due to production needs or special projects.

Physical Requirements:

Regularly stands and walks throughout the shift and uses hands for detailed assembly, wiring, fastening, and vinyl application. Frequently bends, reaches, twists, crouches, and works in other production positions. Must be able to safely use a ladder and lift, carry, position, or team-lift sign components weighing up to 50 pounds.
