SUMMARY
This position is responsible for installing and maintaining a variety of traffic control devices, with a primary focus on pavement markings. This role includes assisting work crews with the installation, maintenance, and repair of pavement markings, and involves performing heavy manual labor. While the position is primarily assigned to the Pavement Markings Section, it may also be required to support other sections or specialized projects as needed.
Major Duties & Responsibilities:
- Install and maintain pavement markings.
- Operate a variety of specialized pavement marking tools and equipment.
- Load and unload materials, supplies , and equipment.
- Ensure all related Pavement Markings tasks are completed correctly and efficiently.
- Maintain detailed work records including maintenance forms, inventory forms, vehicle inspections forms, daily work logs and other documentation.
- Set up temporary traffic control, safety cones and signs according to the CDOT WATCH handbook, Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and specialized training.
- Maintain a safe work environment by following appropriate procedures , utilizing personal protective equipment and recogniz e and report unsafe conditions and actions.
- Perform related work as required .
Minimum Required Qualifications:
- One (1) year work experience with heavy equipment, construction, traffic control, or pavement markings .
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Class A CDL
Preferred Qualifications :
- Experience with work hazards, work zones, safety precautions, 811 Locates procedures, OSHA regulations, pavement marking surface preparation, and operation of specialized pavement marking equipment and hand tools. Experience with reading and interpreting pavement marking plans and layouts in accordance with the MUTCD.
- Computer experience preferred; including but not limited to typing, word documents, spreadsheets, and work order management system.
- Experience in routine maintenance on specialized Pavement Marking equipment is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
- Ability to read and write; including follow engineering drawings and construction plans that are provided.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- General knowledge of methods, practices, procedures, work hazards and equipment used in the installation and maintenance of pavement marking operations.
- Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems related to the installation and maintenance of pavement markings with limited supervision from Field Engineering & Operations Supervisor .
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods, sometimes under unfavorable weather conditions.
- Ability to work on a team, or lead crews , for various types of traffic projects.
- Knowledge of methods, materials, tools and standard practices for the installation, operation and maintenance of pavement marking systems.
- Knowledge on the MUTCD
- Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions involved with working in and around heavy vehicle traffic.
