Job description

Responsibilities & Qualifications

RESPONSIBILITIES

Research and develop new threat detection use cases based on emerging threats, intelligence reports, and analyst feedback.

Collaborate with stakeholders, security engineers, and tool SMEs to identify and close gaps in detection capabilities.

Develop and maintain custom scripts (e.g., PowerShell, Python, SPL) to enhance SIEM functionality.

Evaluate and improve the quality and reliability of data feeds into the SIEM.

Collaborate with system owners to identify critical assets, applications, and services to prioritize alerting and detection use cases.

Tailor detection content to specific systems, applications, and operational environments.

Utilize the MITRE ATT&CK framework to guide use case development and threat mapping.

Participate in threat hunting and incident response efforts to validate and refine detections.

Maintain documentation for detection logic, tuning decisions, and content lifecycle management.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:

5+ years of relevant IT experience

, with a focus in cybersecurity or systems engineering.

3+ years of hands-on experience with a SIEM

in content development or incident response capacity.

3+ years of experience in system and/or network administration

with an understanding of enterprise environments.

Strong knowledge of various log formats

Familiarity with the

MITRE ATT&CK framework

for threat modeling and detection engineering.

In-depth understanding of

network architecture

and core protocols,

Scripting and automation skills in

PowerShell, Python

, or

Splunk Processing Language (SPL)

.

Thorough understanding of

Defense-in-Depth

strategies and layered security controls.

Certifications:

IAT Level II Certification

– One of the following: CCNA Security; CySA+; GICSP; GSEC; Security+ CE; CND; SSCP

CSSP Incident Responder

– One of the following: CEH; CCNA Cyber Ops; CCNA; CySA+; PenTest+; GCIH; CFR; CHFI; GCFA

Must have one of the “computer network Defense” CE Certifications withing six months of on-boarding.

Clearance:

DOD Top Secret Clearance and be eligible for an IT-I Critical Sensitive security clearance or Tier 5 (T5)
