Job summary

The City of San Antonio is seeking a reliable side loader operator to support solid waste collection on assigned routes across multiple service centers. You will operate and maintain a side loader truck, perform daily pre-trip inspections, and respond to inquiries from residents while maintaining safety standards.

Must have a Texas CDL Class B license and be able to lift 40 pounds, with a schedule of 6:30 AM to 4:30 PM on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.

Qualifications

• Ability to safely operate a side loader vehicle in heavy traffic and in all types of weather conditions.
• Ability to learn City streets.

• Ability to establish and maintain a cooperative working relationship with co-workers, supervisors and the general public.
• Ability to perform all physical requirements of the position, with or without accommodations.

Responsibilities

• Operates and maintains side loader truck.
• Prepares vehicle for daily assignment by performing pre-trip inspections.
• Maintains personal protective equipment and prepares safety equipment to be used during the workday.
• Collects all materials from assigned route, frequently lifting and carrying brush or bulky waste weighing 40 pounds.
• Unloads collected materials at disposal or processing facilities.
• Prepares driver's report at the end of the day to report any malfunctions with the truck.
• Cleans cab of assigned truck at the end of the day and washes truck once a week.
• Courteously responds to citizen's inquiries about departmental services and programs.
• Delivers literature which identifies acceptable and non-acceptable materials.
• Operates assigned vehicle in a safe manner in accordance with all safety rules and traffic laws.
• Performs other related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
