Job summary

City of Houston's Solid Waste Management Department is seeking a driver to operate heavy-duty trucks on assigned routes, performing pre/post-trip inspections and daily vehicle maintenance. The role involves physical labor, customer interaction, and potential disaster-recovery duties.

An essential worker position with extended hours including weekends and holidays. A clear driving record and valid CDL are required to comply with City policies.

Qualifications

• Reading and basic math skills required.
• Three months of CDL driving experience required.
• Must hold a valid Class A or B CDL.

Responsibilities

• Operate a side loader or rear loader truck to collect and transport waste material from assigned routes.
• Operate the hydraulic controls on truck.
• Perform physical labor of collection of yard waste, heavy trash, recyclables and garbage from City curbs.
• Answer citizens’ questions regarding contents, packing weight, and pickup times.
