Job summary

Storm Smart in Texas seeks a Shutter Installer Trainee to gain hands‑on experience installing hurricane shutters and protection systems under supervision.

You will learn proper techniques and safety practices, travel to job sites, and work toward Installer certification while delivering professional, customer‑focused service aligned with Storm Smart’s standards.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Assist with installation of hurricane shutters and protection systems.
  • Participate in hands-on training to learn techniques and safety standards.
  • Prepare job sites by unloading materials, organizing tools, and staging equipment.
  • Support assembly and installation of shutter systems per specs and procedures.
  • Read and interpret basic work orders and installation instructions.
  • Operate hand and power tools under supervision.
  • Follow safety protocols and PPE requirements on site.
  • Assist with sealing and securing shutters to ensure durability.
  • Maintain a clean, organized job site and care for tools and materials.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and adjustments of installed systems.
  • Travel to job sites and support loading/unloading company vehicles.
  • Communicate progress and material needs to lead installers and supervisors.
  • Demonstrate reliability and work toward Installer certification.
  • Provide professional, customer-focused service and uphold Storm Smart standards.

The Shutter Installer Trainee is a position designed to provide hands‑on training and experience in the installation of hurricane shutters and related protection systems. The trainee will work closely with experienced installers to learn the proper techniques and safety practices required to effectively install various types of shutters.

Key Responsibilities & Duties
  • Assist experienced installers with the installation of hurricane shutters and related protection systems, including roll-down, accordion, and panel shutters.
  • Participate in hands‑on training to learn proper installation techniques, safety practices, and quality standards.
  • Prepare job sites by unloading materials, organizing tools, measuring areas, and staging equipment for efficient installations.
  • Support the accurate assembly and installation of shutter systems according to specifications, drawings, and company procedures.
  • Learn to read and interpret basic work orders, measurements, and installation instructions.
  • Safely operate hand and power tools under supervision.
  • Follow all safety protocols, including PPE use and jobsite safety requirements.
  • Assist with sealing, anchoring, and securing shutters to ensure performance and durability.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional job site, including care of tools, materials, and customer property.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and adjustment of installed systems as needed.
  • Travel to residential and commercial job sites and assist with loading/unloading company vehicles.
  • Communicate effectively with lead installers and supervisors regarding job progress, material needs, and issues.
  • Demonstrate continuous learning, reliability, and a strong work ethic to progress toward Installer certification.
  • Provide professional, customer-focused service and consistently represent Storm Smart’s brand, values, and service standards on every job.
