Job Summary

Fleet Services by Cox Automotive is currently hiring a Shop Trailer Mechanic II. This is a dedicated on-site shop position; we do not provide emergency roadside repairs. The Shop Trailer Technician II will be responsible for performing certified DOT inspections, Preventative Maintenance inspections, light repairs, and other duties such as aluminum and chem-lite, trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps and engines, liftgates, brake chambers, welding, fabrication, replacement of panels, body, and framework. The Shop Trailer Technician II can perform more advanced repairs under supervision and assists higher-level technicians while learning additional skills. A successful Technician complies with all company policies and achieves high performance metrics.

Duties
  1. Follow and comply with safe operating practices and procedures.
  2. Determine parts required for each job and interact with the Shop Parts Department to obtain them.
  3. Maintain a clean and safe work environment; assist in cleanup at the end of each day.
  4. Apply knowledge from training or experience to perform job duties; understand and evaluate technical information.
  5. Work with Service Writer to assess customer needs, provide information or assistance, and resolve issues.
  6. Manage concurrent tasks, prioritize work, and allocate time effectively.
  7. Act with integrity, demonstrate honesty, keep commitments, and adhere to ethical standards.
  8. Perform scheduled preventive maintenance, DOT inspections, and follow-up repairs on various vehicles.
  9. Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, battery checks, and lubrication.
  10. Use hand tools, precision instruments, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
  11. Document work performed, parts used, and findings using company devices and applications.
  12. Complete DOT and other documentation in a timely manner.
  13. Maintain productivity levels within standard repair times.
  14. Communicate with Shop Manager for approvals, purchase orders, and notes.
  15. Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, and environmental policies and regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
  16. Participate in safety training and maintain shop safety standards.
  17. Maintain shop service trucks, conduct safety checks, and perform pre/post trip inspections.
  18. Perform minor adjustments and repairs on trailer equipment and systems.
  19. Diagnose, adjust, and repair trailer systems, including welding and fabrication.
  20. Identify problems, evaluate information, and generate solutions.
  21. Inspect and test defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions.
  22. Assist higher-level technicians with diagnostics.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma/GED and 3 years’ experience in a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Possess and supply necessary hand tools.
  • OEM training and certifications preferred.
  • Complete all required company training.
  • Must pass DOT background screening and physical; valid DOT medical card preferred if expiring in more than 4 months.
  • Must be at least 21 years old due to interstate commerce regulations.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
Certifications

Required within 18 months: ASE T8 (PMI).
Preferred: ASE T4 (Brakes), T5 (Suspension), T6 (Electrical), T7 (HVAC), T608/609.
