Job summary

Shermco Industries seeks a diligent UL508A Panel Shop Employee to assemble, wire, and test industrial control panels and enclosures from schematics and BOMs. You will work from layouts and wiring diagrams to produce panels that meet customer and regulatory standards.

The role requires reading electrical drawings, installing components, and maintaining a clean, safe work area while following torque specs and testing procedures. Prior UL508A experience is a plus.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience assembling or wiring electrical control panels preferred.
  • Experience in a UL508A panel shop is a plus.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Basic understanding of AC/DC electrical systems and industrial control components.
  • Ability to use common electrical and mechanical hand tools safely and correctly.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
  • Ability to measure, cut, strip, crimp, terminate, and label wiring.
  • Ability to work independently and within a production team.
  • Willingness to learn UL508A requirements and new electrical technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble and wire UL508A control panels and electrical enclosures.
  • Interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and BOMs.
  • Install circuit breakers, relays, PLC components, and other electrical parts.
  • Perform mechanical layout, drilling, and mounting of components.
  • Route, strip, terminate, label, and organize wiring.
  • Build panels per drawings with proper grounding and labeling.
  • Adhere to UL508A requirements and company workmanship standards.
  • Maintain clean, safe work areas and follow PPE guidelines.
  • Use hand/power tools and electrical testing equipment safely.
  • Document inspection or testing results and follow torque specs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Summary

This position works from electrical schematics, panel layouts, bills of materials, and wiring diagrams to produce high-quality control panels that meet customer and regulatory requirements.

Overview

The UL508A Panel Shop Employee is responsible for the safe, accurate, and efficient assembly, wiring, and testing of industrial electrical control panels and enclosures in accordance with UL508A standards, approved drawings, company procedures, and applicable electrical codes. This position works from electrical schematics, panel layouts, bills of materials, and wiring diagrams to produce high-quality control panels that meet customer and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

Essential Responsibilities

  • Assemble and wire UL508A industrial control panels, electrical enclosures, and control systems.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, bills of materials, and engineering drawings.
  • Install circuit breakers, disconnects, contactors, relays, terminal blocks, PLC components, power supplies, VFDs, transformers, and other electrical components.
  • Perform mechanical layout, drilling, cutting, tapping, and mounting of components and wireways.
  • Route, cut, strip, terminate, label, and organize control and power wiring.
  • Build panels according to approved drawings, including proper component placement, wire routing, spacing, grounding, and labeling.
  • Follow UL508A requirements and company workmanship standards throughout the assembly process.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas.
  • Properly use hand tools, power tools, wire-processing equipment, crimpers, torque tools, and electrical test equipment.
  • Follow established torque specifications and document required inspection or testing results.
  • Follow all company safety policies, including electrical safety and proper PPE requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience assembling or wiring electrical control panels is preferred.
  • Experience in a UL508A panel shop is a plus.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Basic understanding of AC/DC electrical systems and industrial control components.
  • Ability to use common electrical and mechanical hand tools safely and correctly.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
  • Ability to accurately measure, cut, strip, crimp, terminate, and label electrical wiring.
  • Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively as part of a production team.
  • Ability to follow written instructions and engineering drawings accurately.
  • Willingness to learn UL508A requirements, company standards, and new electrical technologies.
Preferred Experience
  • 1–3 years of electrical panel building or industrial electrical experience.
  • Experience using torque screwdrivers/wrenches and electrical test equipment.
  • Formal electrical, industrial automation, or electrical controls training.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and work for extended periods.
  • Ability to frequently use hands and fingers for wiring, assembly, and tool operation.
  • Ability to lift and move components and panels consistent with company safety limits.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, reach, and work inside electrical enclosures.
  • Ability to safely work around electrical equipment and industrial machinery.
Performance Expectations

Success in this position requires a strong commitment to safety, quality, accuracy, productivity, and workmanship. The employee is expected to build panels that are neat, properly labeled, mechanically sound, electrically correct, and compliant with applicable UL508A requirements before they proceed to final testing or shipment.
