Key Performance Indicators
  • Achieving an annual repair efficiency of at least 85%
  • Limiting annual rework hours to less than 3% of total billed hours
  • Maintaining average competency scores between 4 and 6 on the Technical and Soft Skills sections of the Technician Competency Matrix
  • Securing a minimum safety rating of 7 on the Safety section of the competency matrix
Key Job Responsibilities
  • Complete assigned repair tasks efficiently, striving to meet or surpass established flat rate times and maintain a low re‑do rate to ensure customer satisfaction and operational efficiency.
  • Adhere rigorously to all Komatsu Equipment Company and customer‑specific safety policies and procedures, fostering a safe workplace for all team members.
  • Accurately and promptly complete all required documentation including work orders, parts orders, Job Safety Analyses (JSA), and data management systems such as DBS, SIMS, SIS Web, and Shop Time Worksheet (STW).
  • Enforce contamination control and hazardous material (HAZMAT) guidelines to ensure safety and compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Skillfully remove and install machine parts, disassemble and reassemble components, and accurately test and adjust assemblies with minimal supervision, ensuring functionality and quality.
  • Provide precise quotations and pricing estimates to customers by evaluating repair needs and resource requirements.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and component failures using advanced diagnostic tools and in‑depth technical knowledge, providing reliable repair recommendations.
  • Conduct thorough testing and verification procedures to confirm the successful operation of all completed repairs and adjustments prior to job closure.
  • Apply comprehensive failure analysis methods alongside procedural standards to determine root causes and develop effective repair solutions.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members and supervisors to communicate job progress, challenges, and best practices to improve overall shop performance.
Qualifications / Requirements
  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required; Associate Degree in Diesel Technology or a related field strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant hands‑on experience in heavy equipment repair, maintenance, or a closely related technical field; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
  • Flexibility to adjust to varied work schedules including shifts, weekends, and potential overtime, supporting operational needs.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow complex instructions and technical manuals; capable of composing clear correspondence and communicating effectively in one‑on‑one and small group contexts with customers and colleagues.
  • Proficient in performing accurate calculations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, ratios, and measurement conversions necessary for repair diagnostics and parts estimations.
  • Familiarity with database management, contract and order processing systems, Internet navigation, and manufacturer‑specific software applications.
  • Ability to interpret data and technical reports using intuition and experience to diagnose problems and propose effective, timely solutions.
  • Demonstrates a proactive approach to addressing customer needs, speaking and writing clearly, and fostering positive relationships.
  • Maintains balanced responsibility between individual tasks and supporting team efforts, encouraging a cooperative work environment.
  • Effectively prioritizes and orchestrates workload to meet deadlines and optimize productivity.

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations

  • Mandatory completion of Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) certification to meet industry safety standards.
  • Possibility of needing respirator certification based on assigned duties.
