Job summary

Pye-Barker Fire & Safety, LLC in Denver is seeking a Shop Technician to inspect, service, recharge and certify portable extinguishers, ensuring safety and compliance. You will disassemble, clean, repair, and reassemble extinguishers, perform hydrostatic testing, and maintain accurate service records and inventory.

This role requires lifting 50+ lbs and working in a team environment with safety as a priority.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Inspect, service, recharge, and certify portable fire extinguishers.
• Disassemble, clean, repair, and reassemble extinguishers and pressure cylinders.
• Perform hydrostatic testing on fire extinguishers and other approved cylinders.
• Verify cylinder integrity, compliance dates, and serviceability.
• Fill and recharge dry chemical, CO₂, water, and clean agent extinguishers as authorized.
• Apply service tags, labels, verification of service collars, and compliance markings.
• Maintain accurate service records and inventory documentation.
• Operate recharge equipment, hydrostatic test equipment, scales, compressors, and other shop tools.
• Identify damaged, obsolete, or non-serviceable cylinders and prepare them for disposal.
• Assist with receiving, stocking, organizing, and shipping inventory.
• Follow OSHA, DOT, NFPA, and company safety requirements at all times.
• Assist field technicians with equipment preparation and special projects as needed.
• Load and unload cylinders, extinguishers, and material deliveries.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment.
• Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
• Other duties as assigned by management.

Education / Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent. 1+ years of mechanical, warehouse, or construction experience preferred. Basic knowledge of hand and power tools. Ability to read a tape measure and perform basic math calculations. Ability to lift 50+ lbs and perform physical tasks throughout the day. Strong work ethic and attention to detail. Ability to work in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment.

Preferred

Experience in fire protection or life safety systems and familiarity with NFPA standards.

Other Duties

Adheres to the Code of Conduct, Confidentiality Agreement, and Company Safety Policy. Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 50+ lbs regularly. Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching. Ability to work in a shop environment with exposure to noise, dust, and varying temperatures. Use of hands and arms for handling tools, materials, and equipment.

Compensation

Compensation: $18 - $20 hourly depending on experience

Anticipated Close: 12.1.2026
