Job summary

SF Metalworks in Colusa, CA is seeking a Shop Technical Lead to guide fabricators, welders, CNC operators and production staff on the shop floor, ensuring quality, safety, and on-time delivery. This hands-on leadership role requires strong fabrication expertise and proven ability to mentor and coordinate multiple crews.

You’ll read blueprints and CAD drawings, troubleshoot fabrication challenges, and align production with project priorities, while maintaining OSHA safety practices.

Qualifications

• 5-7+ years of experience in metal fabrication or related field
• 3+ years in a supervisory or leadership role
• Proficiency reading blueprints, shop drawings, CAD files, 2D/3D drawings
• Experience leading a production team in hands-on environment
• Experience with ISO 9000-type Quality Assurance program
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and support fabricators, welders, CNC operators, and production staff.
• Provide on-the-floor coaching and guidance.
• Assign team members to projects based on production priorities.
• Conduct regular check-ins and identify training opportunities.
• Lead by example in craftsmanship, organization, safety, and professionalism.
• Review plans, shop drawings, and project details to understand build requirements.
• Track production progress and adjust priorities to keep projects moving.
• Coordinate with Project Management and Installation teams to support deliveries and installations.
• Troubleshoot fabrication challenges and ensure quality meets specifications.
