Job summary

Matrix Project Services in Bakersfield, CA is seeking a Shop Quality Supervisor to lead QA/QC activities on our steel fabrication projects. You will supervise personnel, apply quality systems, perform NDE inspections, and coordinate third‑party reviews to ensure compliance with ASME and AISC requirements.

The role requires AWS CWI certification, 5+ years in QA/QC in steel fabrication, strong communication skills, and proficiency with MS Office.

Qualifications

  • AWS CWI certification is required.
  • 5+ years related experience in QA/QC.
  • Current certification in a related discipline preferred (ASNT Level II, NACE, etc.).
  • Thorough working knowledge of quality assurance and QC activities.
  • Experience in steel fabrication and strong communication skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and related software.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise quality control activities on fabrication projects.
  • Perform and report on NDE inspections and testing activities.
  • Coordinate 3rd‑party inspections and review reports for accuracy.
  • Prepare weld maps, record drawings, and turnover packages.
  • Maintain audit readiness for ASME and AISC certifications.
  • Mentor shop personnel and drive continuous improvement.
  • Address quality and safety issues on the shop floor.

Job Summary

The Shop Quality Supervisor plans, directs, performs, and supervises company quality control functions and activities.

Essential Functions
  • Actively support the Company’s commitment to safety and its “Core Values.”
  • Represents the Company at all times with high moral standards while adhering to the Company’s “Code of Business Conduct and Ethics.”
  • Provides specialized technical expertise in support of the Quality program, including specialized inspection and testing techniques, quality training, statistical methods, audits, quality tools for problem solving and assessment.
  • Perform and report on NDE inspections and testing activities.
  • Coordinate 3rd party inspections and review reports for accuracy and compliance with project requirements.
  • Prepare, organize, and submit weld maps, record drawings, and final turnover packages.
  • Plan, conduct, and document Welder Performance Qualification Testing.
  • Maintain shop at an “Audit Ready” condition at all times for certification programs, including ASME and AISC.
  • Maintain NCR site and associated activities to provide accurate data to management.
  • Act as liaison for customer inspectors or customer representatives that visit the shop location.
  • Apply knowledge of quality systems and tools to validate and verify contractually required standards for project execution.
  • Maintain presence on shop floor and address quality and safety issues.
  • Manage measuring and test equipment calibration activities and storage.
  • Perform Quality training to shop personnel, as needed.
  • Responsible for maintaining quality standard of products and the procedures and materials that go into work scope. Aligns quality management function with the performance needs of product lines.
  • Actively participate in issue resolution and continuous improvement activities.
  • Establishes priorities for the completion of assigned tasks. Uses judgment to interpret internal and external issues and develop best practices. May direct resources, prioritize tasks, and provide guidance to less experienced team members.
  • Relies upon experience, interpersonal skills, and broad knowledge of field to ensure task completion in compliance with policies, procedures, and business strategy.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.
Qualifications
  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) is required.
  • LA City Dept of Building and Safety “Quality Control Inspector” certification is preferred.
  • 5+ years related experience in QA/QC.
  • Current certification in a related discipline specific inspection process (e.g. ASNT Level II, NACE etc.) preferred.
  • Thorough working knowledge of regulatory agency quality assurance and quality control activities.
  • Experience must have been in steel fabrication. .
  • Proven ability to supervise personnel and excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Advance degree or training is desirable.
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must be proficient in computer skills including use of Microsoft Office products.

Hiring range: $35.00 per hour to $44.00 per hour
