Job description

Reports To: Shop Foreman

Job Purpose

The Shop Mechanic is responsible for helping maintain, repair, and prepare company vehicles and equipment to ensure they are safe, reliable, and job-site ready. This position is ideal for a well-rounded mechanic with experience troubleshooting and repairing medium to heavy duty trucks, construction equipment, and other equipment.

Essential Functions
  • Diagnose, maintain, and repair a variety of company vehicles and equipment, including skid steers, excavators, crawler carriers, trucks, trailers, and other construction and landscaping equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, and general mechanical repairs.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and other equipment-related issues.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and other shop tools safely and effectively.
  • Identify potential equipment problems before they result in breakdowns or downtime.
  • Assist with equipment modifications, repairs, and basic fabrication as needed.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized shop environment.
  • Work with the Shop Foreman, field staff, and management to keep equipment operational and job-site ready.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • 3–4+ years of hands-on mechanical experience working with trucks, construction equipment, landscaping equipment, agricultural equipment, automotive equipment, or similar machinery preferred.
  • Requires own tools.
  • Heavy-duty diesel experience is preferred but not required.
  • Strong general mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills.
  • Working knowledge of hydraulic and electrical systems is preferred.
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and other mechanic/shop tools.
  • Ability to diagnose problems, determine appropriate repairs, and complete work efficiently.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to take accountability for completed work.
  • Ability to take direction while also working independently.
  • Mechanical, hydraulic, automotive, or equipment-related certifications are a plus but not required.
  • Valid driver's license required. CDL Class A or B is a plus.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to reach, stoop, bend, kneel, and work in various positions while repairing equipment.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 80 pounds as needed.
  • Ability to work in a busy and sometimes noisy shop environment.
  • Ability to occasionally work outdoors and in varying weather conditions as required.
