Shop Manager (Diesel / Heavy Equipment)
Full-Time, Exempt | Monday–Friday | $75,000–$90,000 Annually
Position Overview
I&S Inc. of NY is seeking a Shop Manager to lead daily shop operations, supervise personnel, and ensure equipment readiness to support field operations.
This is a hands-on leadership role requiring both strong supervisory experience and a background as a diesel or heavy equipment mechanic. The ideal candidate is someone who has progressed from the shop floor into a leadership role and can effectively manage people, workflow, and equipment maintenance.
This position is not entry-level and requires prior experience both performing mechanical work and leading a team in a shop or field environment.
Schedule
- Full-time, steady Monday–Friday schedule
- Primarily shop-based with coordination of field repairs as needed
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $75,000 – $90,000 annually, based on experience

Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate daily activities of mechanics and fabricators
- Lead, coach, and hold team members accountable for safety and performance
- Plan and prioritize shop workflow in coordination with operations
- Oversee maintenance and repair of diesel and heavy equipment
- Maintain organized work orders, service records, and documentation
- Manage parts ordering and maintain appropriate inventory levels
- Ensure shop cleanliness, organization, and regulatory compliance
- Deploy personnel for field repairs as needed
- Review and manage shop-related expenses
- Provide hands-on support with diagnostics and repairs when required
Qualifications
Required:
- Minimum 3–5 years of hands-on experience as a diesel or heavy equipment mechanic
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience in a supervisory, lead, or foreman role
- Strong working knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and heavy equipment maintenance
- Proven ability to lead a team, delegate work, and enforce safety standards
- Experience managing workflow, scheduling, and shop operations
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Basic computer proficiency
Preferred:
- Experience with drilling, oilfield, or similar heavy equipment
- Experience managing a maintenance program, fleet, or shop operations
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Work performed in a shop environment with exposure to equipment, tools, noise, and varying conditions
- Ability to lift, carry, and move materials as needed
- Occasional fieldwork in outdoor conditions
