Overview

The Shop Machine Press Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining a 500-ton press, likely a hydraulic press, to produce metal components according to specifications. This role requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and adherence to safety protocols. This position is an individual contributor role. The role directly reports to the Supervisor.

Responsibilities
  • Sets up and operates and monitors the 500-ton press to ensure accurate and efficient production of parts.
  • Studies blueprints, layouts, and sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operation, and setup requirements.
  • Loading and unloading materials, potentially including metal plates or components, into the press.
  • Perform routine machine adjustments to maintain product quality
  • Inspect finished parts using measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges) to ensure specifications are met
  • Conduct quality checks and document production results
  • Troubleshoot basic machine issues and elevate complex problems as needed
  • Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, and lubrication of equipment
  • Follow all safety protocols, OSHA guidelines, and company policy
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area
  • Maintain accurate production records and all relevant documentation
  • Work involves frequent lifting of materials up to 50 pounds.
  • Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules, including wearing required personal safety equipment.
  • Performs other duties and activities as required.
Local Requirements

Normal work environment will be shop or field which will require exposure to outdoor weather conditions, loud noise, working near moving mechanical parts, electrical energy, construction equipment, vibration, fumes, chemicals, and airborne particles.

Physical Requirements

The job requires varied physical tasks, including standing, walking, sitting, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, fingering, feeling, vision, and hearing. The work also involves lifting and carrying heavy loads, categorized as follows:

  • Light Work: lifting up to 10 lbs.
  • Medium Work: lifting up to 25 lbs.
  • Heavy Work: lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Very Heavy Work: lifting more than 50 lbs.
